Hospital appointments
I understand that we are not entitled to paid time off to attend hospital appointments. It seems to be at the doms discretion. I have an appointment next month and have been told I will have to change my day off to attend. However another guy in our office got paid time off when they had their appointment. Does the dom have to have a consistent policy on this?
What have I done to deserve this?

Re: Hospital appointments
if he is not being fair and treating you all equally then raise a greivance but check first that you are actually being treated unfairly, as the other person may have a condition covered by the equalities act and as such he might be getting extra paid time off to attend hospital as part of a reasonable adjustment and if that was case and your appointment was just a one off or so then the reason for the time off might not be "equal" if you understand what i meanSilly Sarah wrote:I understand that we are not entitled to paid time off to attend hospital appointments. Tell DOM you can't swap your day off, as the day is spoken for.Silly Sarah wrote:I understand that we are not entitled to paid time off to attend hospital appointments. Remind DOM what was done for the other person.
If no satisfactory solution is put forward by DOM, raise with Unit Rep.
No joy with UR, raise with Area Rep.

How do you "check first"?zx135 wrote:if he is not being fair and treating you all equally then raise a greivance but check first that you are actually being treated unfairly, as the other person may have a condition covered by the equalities act and as such he might be getting extra paid time off to attend hospital as part of a reasonable adjustment and if that was case and your appointment was just a one off or so then the reason for the time off might not be "equal" if you understand what i meanSilly Sarah wrote:I understand that we are not entitled to paid time off to attend hospital appointments. The reasons for the other person attending a hospital appointment aren't for open discussion.

ask the person who is getting the time off, pretty simple to do thatclashcityrocker wrote:How do you "check first"?zx135 wrote:if he is not being fair and treating you all equally then raise a greivance but check first that you are actually being treated unfairly, as the other person may have a condition covered by the equalities act and as such he might be getting extra paid time off to attend hospital as part of a reasonable adjustment and if that was case and your appointment was just a one off or so then the reason for the time off might not be "equal" if you understand what i meanSilly Sarah wrote:I understand that we are not entitled to paid time off to attend hospital appointments. He may not be too forthcoming if it's a social disease and in any case why would he get involved?zx135 wrote:ask the person who is getting the time off, pretty simple to do thatclashcityrocker wrote:How do you "check first"?zx135 wrote:if he is not being fair and treating you all equally then raise a greivance but check first that you are actually being treated unfairly, as the other person may have a condition covered by the equalities act and as such he might be getting extra paid time off to attend hospital as part of a reasonable adjustment and if that was case and your appointment was just a one off or so then the reason for the time off might not be "equal" if you understand what i meanSilly Sarah wrote:I understand that we are not entitled to paid time off to attend hospital appointments. It's not too difficult to reschedule appointments to fit round work and over the last ten years I've had enough to know.

Re: Hospital appointments
Wrong you are entitled to paid time off for hospital appointments and this is not at DOMS discretion. Hospital appointments such as being seen by a specialist who mainly consult on particular days and times and cancelling due to your work would result in a further delay unlike GP appointments who can fit you in within their surgery time. You need to advise your union rep on this matter.Silly Sarah wrote:I understand that we are not entitled to paid time off to attend hospital appointments. It seems to be at the doms discretion. Re: Hospital appointments
Well the op already knows he is getting paid for the appointment, so the guy getting the time off is already talking so asking if it's because of a long term issue wouldn't be volunteering much more infodvbuk55 wrote:He may not be too forthcoming if it's a social disease and in any case why would he get involved?zx135 wrote:ask the person who is getting the time off, pretty simple to do thatclashcityrocker wrote:How do you "check first"?zx135 wrote:if he is not being fair and treating you all equally then raise a greivance but check first that you are actually being treated unfairly, as the other person may have a condition covered by the equalities act and as such he might be getting extra paid time off to attend hospital as part of a reasonable adjustment and if that was case and your appointment was just a one off or so then the reason for the time off might not be "equal" if you understand what i meanSilly Sarah wrote:I understand that we are not entitled to paid time off to attend hospital appointments. The OP thinks they know the other person is being paid but ultimately it is none of their business.

So take your day off! Not something I would consider unreasonable and would certainly do in the future as I have in the past.

Not quite right, special leave time off is at the discretion of the dom but he would need to come up with a pretty good reason to refuse itrehabron wrote:Wrong you are entitled to paid time off for hospital appointments and this is not at DOMS discretion. The op never said "think" so you can't assume he just thinks the guy is getting paid he may know for fact he is, also it is his business if he is being discriminated againstclashcityrocker wrote:The OP thinks they know the other person is being paid but ultimately it is none of their business.

Re: Hospital appointments
Yes, that was my experience with our previous dom. For the record, the guy who had paid time off to attend his hospital appointment, told me this was the case. Not sure why RM doesn't have a definite policy on this. Leaving it to the doms discretion just leaves it open to abuse, unfairness and accusations of favouritism.solcat wrote:I have to say that I never had a problem with any appointments I had. Have you got a link for that rehabron ?rehabron wrote: Wrong you are entitled to paid time off for hospital appointments and this is not at DOMS discretion.
I'm aware that you have to be given the time off, but not that you have to be paid for it too.
