it isnt MY idea,,,its the unions and royal mail. in the 2010 shambolic agreement, the roadshow came and told us that indoor work was going to become practically non existant,,so we should embrace more d2d to ''justify'' prep work to give us enough work to take us to our hours. this turned out to be (as expected) pure bollocks..there is MORE than enough work to take us to our time. this is why there is handbacks every day. the new sequence machines have had NO impact on our indoor work. we have about ten people every day coming in early on overtime to go on the ips. then when we come in, the sorting continues for at least another 2 hrs. all the deliveries are 4hrs.45mins long, and there is STILL loads handed back for people to do on overtime. part/time and full.

also,,,automation may eventually reduce the amount of ips work,,but there will always be prep work at the frame. so the idea that the job is going to be nearly all delivery is, in my view rubbish. especially as packets are ever increasing.

If you say so - we'll see when typical spans get to 5.00 to 5.30 hours.

Yeah but then we could always ditch the trollies for bag over shoulders so we can make some time.
Then twist about having to lapse or the spans increasing to 5-30 - 6-00 hours.
The union dont know what they are doing :cuppa
Trying to protect full time Jobs who wants one of them if it means actually working the hours :arrrghhh
It's a long time posties right to click at least 10 hours a week & if the union wont fight for that whats the point of paying £3 a week.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

I know you are being sarcastic, but there are many who actually think like that.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

well a 5.30 delivery is 45mins longer than we currently have. so thats 45 min more prep time. unless of course these fantastic machines learn how to prep a duty in, and sort and mark up all of our packets.
