It could be. But then again, that's not an argument worth starting up. Everyone's situations are different, and nobody is daft enough to suggest people put Royal Mail before their kids. Using my office as an example, with finish times at 14:50pm, and not many out of towners working here; surely those out of towners have the right and sense to do that. The other 80% plus, I don't think so. It's rush home and get in the arm chair 30 mins early, and forget about it, then complain and get upset when flexi time and lapsing gets forced.
The management aren't stupid. By all means agree with your workmate your break patterns; but when you're done early by your break plus for example 30 mins, then it's happy arguments until it's worked back.

Well they're wrong.
Between 7hrs and 1 minute, and 8 hours and 59 minutes, meal reliefs are 40 minutes long.
You do 8 hours 15 minutes.
A 30 minute break is for 5 to 7 hour duties.
It's in the Way Forward agreement. Section 5.

If it was 6 contracted hours and 2 hr 15 SA overtime then it would only be a 30 minute break.

There's no way I get time to have a 10 minute break let alone half an hour. If I did I'd end up bringing post back every day or not getting out until late.

Employment law says you are entitled to a break in working time ie; the break/meal relief should not be scheduled at the start or end of your contracted hours but preferably somewhere in the middle of your working day.

Further to that the union has an agreement that allows you to choose to take 20 mins of a 40 min break at the end of the working day and this can be claimed as 20 mins meal relief if overtime is required to complete the delivery,bear in mind that if you don't take the other 20 mins of a 40 min break by the end of your contracted hours then it is lost and cannot be claimed back as overtime.Though most managers ive worked under are not aware of the latter.

Not sure that is right, break is dependent on total attendance so 6 hrs + 2.5 hrs s.a = 8.5 hours attendance, I am pretty sure the only time s.a does not qualify is when the attendance is solely s.a.
e.g Attendance on day off for 8 hours s.a would result in no paid break being due, however unpaid breaks would be due.

As I say pretty certain but not 100%, sure someone else can confirm. Definitely Way Forward Agreement.
