Dear Angard Worker,
You may be aware that Royal Mail has recently agreed a new pay deal for their permanent
staff, for the 2013/14 pay year. The pay agreement covers the three year period from 1st
April 2013 and Royal Mail has agreed that they will backdate this agreement at a rate of
3%. To implement the backdating for Angard workers, this will be effective from week
ending 5th April 2013 subject to the criteria outlined below.
If you are currently a qualified worker, meaning a worker who has completed a qualifying
period as determined by the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR), you will also receive this
pay award. Throughout the rest this letter, currently qualified workers under the AWR are
referred to as "Eligible Workers". If you are receiving a copy of this letter then we have
determined that you are an Eligible Worker.
The pay award will be managed in two stages:
1) Increasing Basic Pay
The higher rates will be paid to Eligible Workers for the first time on 28th February 2014.
This first payment will be for hours worked between 22:00 Friday 14th February 2014
and 22:00 Friday 21st February 2014.
Further increases to pay will be made in April 2014 and 2015 for Eligible Workers,
provided that the agreement on pay in Royal Mail remains in force.
2) Back-dating the Pay Award for Eligible Workers
Eligible Workers will receive back-dated pay, at a rate of 3% of gross pay, for the
Qualifying Period (as defined below).
Angard will be making the back-dated payment as a one-off figure in the normal weekly
pay of an Eligible Worker. This sum will be paid to all Eligible Workers as soon as
possible; it is anticipated that the payment will be made in March 2014 and Angard will
provide further communication when the pay date is confirmed.
The Qualifying Period is the number of weeks worked between the most recent date on
which an Angard worker has completed a qualifying period and 14 February 2014.
However, the start of this period shall be no earlier than the week ending 5th April 2013
(i.e. only weeks after that week will count).
We have set out two examples below to assist Eligible Workers in understanding the
pay rises they will receive:

Example 1: If you qualified for AWR rates on 10th January 2014, you have remained
qualified, and have worked three weeks since, you will be eligible for three weeks of the
back-dated pay award.
Example 2: If you qualified for AWR rates on 19th October 2012, you have remained
qualified at all times since and have worked 48 weeks since then, you will be eligible for
the back-dated pay rise during the Qualifying Period (i.e. for weeks worked between
(and including) 5th April 2013 and week ending 14th February 2014).
You do not need to do anything to receive this pay award; if you are eligible, this will be
paid to you automatically.
There are no changes to any of the processes for either Royal Mail to report your hours to
Angard, or if you are an office worker, for you to submit your own timesheets. There are
similarly no changes to payment dates or holiday processes.
As a reminder, please see below a summary of key payroll dates:
