west of scotland offices having duties which are excessive from posties point of view are being tracked by pda and barcodes to time p&l
are they going to test duties which are easier and finish early.
also guys raise a fair point ,not all posties return to office that is the major problem some people are only working 30-35 hrs per week and others 39 +hrs
they are paid the same .
so i will put in a grevience demanding same terms and conditions as persons finishing early or they can insist on others returning to office as per rest of staff do
fair and equal workload.
and dont get me started on early starters
should insist on no lapsing , no savings ,nothing until everyone starts at proper time cant have office working to false budgets can we

Feel I have to share what happened yesterday. 1 of our many managers called a meeting and told everybody that they have to sign in when they come in. Sign out when they go out on delivery. Sign back in when they return and then sign back out when they leave to go home. 1 postie asked the question " What the actual times " ? The reply after a brief pause of about 10 seconds was " well yes ". As people were returning at 11.30 onwards, some, not everyone, decided that they would sign out at varying times between 13.30 and 13.45 (actual finishing time 14.03) Much to the humour of people who were finishing much later. Thereby confusing management with this cunning trick. So as from yesterday very few people in my office actually make time. Although I don't know how they did their deliveries after 11.30 as their van keys had been signed back in.

Your work your hours that your paid for, or do give back some of your wages?

Not exactly RM buy so many hours a week from you, so if you finish early they can insist you sit around in the office, or find you something else to, as long as you have been trained you really have no argument, the days of job and finish have long gone, or they could just pay for the hours you worked. So if they want to pay you to sit on your arse that's what you do.

If you owned a business and people were going home early you would consider your options.

a) Give them more work.
b) Only pay them for the hours they worked.
c) Pay them piecework rates.

I'm surprised that Royal Mail still give us the easy option of sitting around doing f**k all until our finish time and it won't last forever but while they do I would rather take that option than any of the others listed above.

I do an indoor duty - RLE and have to work my full hours each day.

That includes taking a meal break - something most delivery staff in my office have never done as thats often the excuse for going home early.

Can you honestly say it's fair or justified that i have to work till my finish time, if you can go home as soon as you've finished your delivery?
Some in my office finish at least 2 hours before me Mon-Fri and nearer 4 hrs on a Saturday.

Also, before tries the usual justification and anyone says the usual crap - i don't sit around all day drinking coffee and reading the paper while your out on delivery in all weathers - i actually have a delivery that should take an hour, but in reality takes me 90 minutes at the moment.
The delivery was added to my duty on top of what was already a full days work - so now of course some aspects of my job are failing and as the mail increases later in the year, more will fail.

Job and knock was great while it lasted, but it's gone and the sooner we get used to it the better !

Wow a whole 90 minutes that must be very tiring for you!

Just wondering how you fit this in to your already full days work? Does this mean you go over by 90 minutes? Or was your full days work not actually a full days work before?

I ended up in the RLE after 2 bouts of PF, resulting in achilles problems. I didn't mind the job at first and have done it for about 4 years now - but i thought the whole idea of the revision was to ensure a fair and equal workload ( yeah i knew at the start it was unlikely), but if anything in our office at least, it's more unfair now than it's ever been.

I took the RLE as i had to come off my walk at the time my feet caused me to have nearly 3 months off sick, i saw it as a chance for my feet and ankles to heel. My walk involved 6 tower blocks, 22 floors in each involving some 5000 stairs a day.

We haven't had a resign as yet, but rest assured i am looking at a return to delivery.

As previously stated, my day was full before the delivery was added, with the delivery i am now failing parts of my job on a daily basis.
NO i don't find the delivery tiring, why would i ? Pushing an HCT for 90mins. I'm not like the idiots that go racing round trying to get done asap so they can go home - i have to return and finish in the RLE some 2-3hrs later and YES by then i am feckin tired.

Have i done anything about it? Yes now at Grievance level 3. Do i expect to get anything from that? Not a feckin thing, even more work probably.

Your missing the whole issue - i don't have a problem working to my time - done it for too long. I don't have a problem with what i do during my time. I don't have a problem with anyone making time and finishing early.
I have a BIG feckin issue with management allowing delivery staff to finish and go home early every day, when there is still work to be done. Work that was once covered pre revision is now left, failed, ignored or put out on O/T on a daily basis.
