Royal Mail 'no plans to move Helensburgh delivery office'

As revealed in last week’s Advertiser, the Post Office has set out proposals to move the Colquhoun Square office 500 metres along the road to 92-94 West Princes Street.

But Royal Mail, which co-ordinates the delivery of mail to the town, has no plans to move from Colquhoun Square.

Jennifer Bird, from the Royal Mail said: “Royal Mail has no plans at this time to relocate Helensburgh Delivery Office.”

A Post Office spokewoman confirmed the plans for the post office are separate from Royal Mail.

She said: “The proposal is to move Helensburgh post office to newly converted premises nearby which will combine the Post Office with a convenience store – believed to be a Costcutter.

“The Royal Mail delivery office is separate and will remain where it is.”

A six-week consultation process is currently under-way for residents to give feedback on the new plans from the Post Office.

The new location would have four serving positions: a mixture of two open plan and one traditional screened counter positions, together with a Post Office serving point at the retail counter.

And the aim is to move in May 2014 after the public consultation has ended in March.

At present, the post office is open 9am-5.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am-12.30pm Saturday and closed on a Sunday.

The post office opening hours at the proposed new location would be 8am–7.30pm Monday to Friday; 8am-6pm on Saturday and 10am–4pm on Sunday, offering customers an extra 27 and a half hours of access. The move is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business through longer opening hours and modern, open-plan environments.
