POSTAL deliveries have been stopped for around 70 homes in Hambledon – causing frustration for flood-hit villagers.

Posties have been delivering for the past three weeks, but Royal Mail took the decision that it could no longer provide a door-to-door service.

A spokesman said: ‘Royal Mail has been working very hard to get mail to as many homes affected by the flooding as possible.

‘The situation is changing rapidly and we have found that around 70 homes which we had been able to access are now not accessible for mail delivery.

‘We will reinstate delivery as soon as it is safe to do so and in the meantime are liaising with the parish council to establish a drop-off point where mail can be securely held until residents can collect it.’

Mik Norman, chairman of Hambledon Parish Council, said: ‘We are unimpressed with Royal Mail’s decision.

‘We understand about duty of care, but we feel other agencies have found ways round this and we don’t see why they cannot.

‘People are running services and obviously take sensible measures. We would not have all these agencies here without having done a risk assessment themselves. It’s basically putting on a pair of wellies.’

Health and Safety. Irrelevant of the company's decision, I'd have refused long ago.

Not really, is it?
