For a postman to spell " fastidiously" correctly fail to understand why you can not complete your 739 correctly. :chuckle

I spent a day in the callers office  and trying to find parcels based on the limited info that some people put on the 739 is a nightmare especially with the customer glaring at you through the window. It certainly taught me the importance of filling in the card correctly and giving as much info as poss.

Got to be a better way, e.g. if the postie sticks on a unique barcode as he 739s it, the callers office scans/files away the package, the customer comes in, scan the barcode on the card, computer tells them where it is.

I've spent a good deal of time in the callers on and off over the years and just a little info is invaluable like, tube, amazon, A4 flat, grey bag, M&S. The best way for people to understand the importance of correctly completing the 739 is to put them in the callers for a day or even a week, over time the experience would pay dividends.

I spend 3 weeks in callers office over a christmas and new year period. Up to 700 customers from 7:00 to 14:00 for three of us. Think the best way to make posties complete these cards properly! Even extra two words for description of item can save loads of time. Of course number of our posties have colour blindness or by mistake ticking item as signed for instead of tracked or special or is it letter or parcel. While you get through all of them that can take up to 15 min.
Yes. It's raining out there. But these 5 sec are highly valued by callers. In our DO at least once a week all posties are reminded to fill in p739 properly or DOM remind you later in person! :Very Happy

Redesign the 739s so there's a 2D barcode hard printed on the card, and the same barcode as a peel off sticker, postie comes along peels off sticker attaches to packet, writes date/time/name on card. Saves us time completing, saves callers office time finding it.

Customer can even benefit from the barcode as there could be a smartphone app they can use it to scan the barcode on the 739 requesting redelivery or advising them where to collect etc.

It's not dissimiliar to what most courier companies do already.

Really don't see how this would help, so you have x amount of packets in the callers office all with barcodes on, how does this help the callers office find particular packet or parcel.Mr Smith brings his 739 to callers office to collect his parcel, person behind the ramp still has to riffle through all parcels beginning with S, so no help really.

Ah I see then, redesign the 739 with a barcode which would then require scanning software and of course a computer, oh and the requisite number of staff to carry out the scanning on returns. All these things are possible of course but it costs money and manpower.

Oh I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand, I've spoken about extra manpower just to keep the callers straight without booking parcels in even as recently as Friday but I wouldn't seriously expect a response.

I worked in the callers office over xmas and you tend to appreciate that these card need to be filled in properly otherwise its like finding as needle in a haystack when looking for parcels. Its just pure lazyness when not filled out correctly with a brief description of what the packet looks like (colour,Large, medium, small, jiffy, box etc).

Ive spent 10 minutes before looking for a small white jiffy. had the postie wrote small white jiffy on the card which takes 5 seconds then I would have found the packet within a minute.

Ours is catagorised by date and then by specials, tracked and recorded. Jiffys go seperate as do amazon again in date order. things usually take 30 seconds to find unless the postman doesnt fill in the card correctly then its upto 10 minutes and then a massive queue.Ive also written out cards in torrential rain,it aint easy but we have to do it.

In the callers office we have shelves with letter of alphabet on so parcels and packets go on shelf with which surname begins, larger parcels on shelves on different room, registered parcels in safe, registered letters in box in alphabetical order, recorded letters In another box. I don't really see how sticking a barcode on will make life any easier.

Ours is searched by date and address and a numbering system to identify where the packet is on the shelves...
