Permanent contract after 2 years service
Im currently in a fixed term contract, and I was told by my union rep that we would get set on permanent after 2 years service. i have now been with the company for 2 and a half years, and im still awaiting on my permanent contract. I have spoken to my union rep about it and hes denying saying what he said. I also have a copy of a royal mail agreement which "specifically" states that no one will be on a temporary contract for more than 2 years. Wonder if someone has any advice for me.. not getting anywhere with my union rep

Re: Permanent contract after 2 years service
It is written in black and white in the Agenda for Growth and Stability Agreement that no temporary contracts after 2 years service. Show a copy of the agreement to your manger and ask for a reply if unfavourable proceed with your union rep.

Re: Permanent contract after 2 years service
The CWU have not yet signed the new agreement and want all the issues and disagreements resolved in a more pragmatic manner before they do.
Now in terms of the 2 year issue , yes the CWU and Royal Mail will be reviewing and making fixed term holders permanent over 2 years providing that the following has been adhered to
1 They are employed against a permanent job and not for example maternity leave.
2. Their office has gone through transformation.
3 They fixed term contract was not based on say a Mail centre closure.
4. In the event that their office has not had its revision they may still be offered permanent positions in another office.
So HR and Divisional Reps will be reviewing all this over the next few weeks.
It is the joint aim to make as many FTCs permanent over 2 years. If your office has gone through transformation then if all the FTCs in the unit have jobs and there are no FTCs. Over 2 years in an office close by who may not have an opportunity to become permanent in their office due to a reduction in duties as a result of a revision then all FTCs regardless of length of service could become permanent.
The other aspect will be to review part time contracted hours who may do more hours per week and if it is against ether their own duty or regular workload then to increase their hours. Now some part timers will do regular more hours against say a belated this will not count to increase their hours. Remember PSP only shows that they work extra hours and not the content of that work.
So if you are over 2 years then you will be offered a permanent contract but it will also be on a seniority basis starting with those who are nearer to 4 years as an FTC first.

Re: Permanent contract after 2 years service
The pay is not the issue, the prize for both sides is industrial stability and the CWU shaping the plans for the future instead of receiving these proposals without any input.
unlike BT2010 there are no changes to any current delivery agreement with the acceptance of the AFG agreement.
Industrial stability is a key for a variety of reasons , share price , not losing work to other providers especially parcels, to the regulator and TNT on delivery.
Either the business adopt a more pragmatic and mutual interest way of resolving issues or industrial stability will never occur and that is not what they promised shareholders in the prospectus.
However that's not to say that the regulator won't want and demand more effiecncy and of course for Royal Mail to capture letters and parcels they will need to be more efficient. The question is whether they move away from the current measurement system.

No changes to the revision process?dingo wrote:unlike BT2010 there are no changes to any current delivery agreement with the acceptance of the AFG agreement.
No changes to performance standards and monitoring?
No changes to flexibility and absorption arrangements?
No changes to Door to Door monitoring and management?
No changes to Job design, duty structures, attendance patterns, Job Descriptions, resource mix and contract types?
All those are up for grabs dingo and the members will have to put a lot of faith in the union because they won't get a vote on them.
The only reason nothing changes yet is because nothing has been agreed...yet.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Ah yes, the Strand group this, the Focus group that scenario, the most without doubt Unagreed (Ageed) Agreement in modern history, oh yes forgot to mention the Legal s**t and the back pay, hey ho it keeps the Top boy's/girls happy Glennofishtank wrote:No changes to the revision process?dingo wrote:unlike BT2010 there are no changes to any current delivery agreement with the acceptance of the AFG agreement.

Re: Permanent contract after 2 years service
Fish I am on 1 of these strands and there will not be any agreement for some considerable time and any agreement will be subject to a members ballot.
The difference from 2010 was that geo route had no input. CDVs and IWT had no input from the union.

Thank you Dingo for this clarity and also that there were NO inputs from the CWU on the above, and it is reassusring that there will be a Members Ballot Glennodingo wrote:Fish I am on 1 of these strands and there will not be any agreement for some considerable time and any agreement will be subject to a members ballot.
