No printed evidence but that's what we were told yesterday by management and I also spotted someone else confirm this on Facebook.

It seems like they are using these work load / resourcing tools ..they pump in the forecast figures and Hey presto, we've all got spare capacity.

Not for those on 20, 25, 30 hours it isn't, they have them by the short back and sides if they want to earn a living

I dont think this is true the only time you can lapse is when the IWT shows it. There is no 10% across the board.

yes you are correct, but so many just do the extra work for nothing(free) as they just cannot cope with the stress cutting off brings.

I dont think this is true the only time you can lapse is when the IWT shows it.

The IWT isn't an all seeing God, It will only give you an idea of indoor resource needed.
It won't give an accurate picture of the required outdoor resource.
Your model traffic may say one thing, the IWT might say another depending on how much full-time resource you have in place that day, how much sick absence etc, the outdoor opportunity might say something else entirely depending on the traffic streams. It only takes an individual duty to get 20 more packets than usual that day and any lapsing opportunity might be gone.

Would Royal Mail arbitrarily decide that they want an extra 10% of savings driven by absorption this year?
It doesn't sound that far fetched bearing in mind they expect another 5-10% decrease in volumes and a percentage year-on-year reduction in the gross hours spent on delivery activities is a key performance target for the business.

Nobody should be under any illusions about the direction the business will be taking and the challenges facing us in the next few years, there will be no lovely,fluffy new relationship between the union and the employer unless the union plans to roll over and have its tummy tickled while the business cuts the hours away from beneath us, the cuts will be harsh and if you're not ready for the fight you will get rolled over.

Don't think for a minute that these "legal protections" mean we can kick back and enjoy the sunshine, There are many ways to cut hours and jobs from this business without even going near the lawyers.

Fishtank i stand corrected.what i was getting at was managers will try to put accross to reps that whatever the IWT says they will still try to get extra savings and ignore what the traffic figures are.its a sad case that some reps AND managers dont really know the correct way to use the IWT and mangers use it as a savings tool rather than a resource tool.I think this IWT will be used more and more and training for reps should be given.
