Re: Rolling contracts
How near enough is 2 years? In the current agreement agenda for growth and stability which has now been voted in in the legal protections mentioned under job security resourcing and managing change 3.1.7. sub section (F) it states no employee shall receive temporary contract exceeding 2 years unless with full consultation between RM and CWU and in special circumstances.rehabron wrote:Lightweight andy wrote:Hi I have worked for royal mail now for near enough 2years and still im being sent theseb3 month rolling contracts? Who decides what the "special circumstances" are, I mean if it's a joint decision we know exactly who's deciding. Is there a drop down listrehabron wrote:How near enough is 2 years? Re: Rolling contracts
As usual like all other agreements this is open to interpretation but this latest agreement is supposed to strengthen more consultative discussions at local level and an input by the CWU in any decision making before mediation is required. A good CWU rep should be asking for figures on workloads, duty lapsing , incompletion of loops and walks, short and long term sickness levels customer complaints and therefore the necessity to alter temp and fixed term contracts to a permanent basis to enhance " stability".dvbuk55 wrote:Who decides what the "special circumstances" are, I mean if it's a joint decision we know exactly who's deciding. Re: Rolling contracts
Itll be 2 years next month, I've asked union rep and managers about the contract but they say it's not down to them, really frustrating as I'm a bloody good postie and always put in the overtime, I feel unappreciated, just after some advise as I want job security and don't feel I have it...

Re: Rolling contracts
Sorry Andy but there is not much that can be given apart from hang in there. The UK legal time limit is 4 years so that won't help.
However there is a clause in the New Legally binding Agreement that says http://www.cwu.org/assets/_files/docume ... _final.doc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So you could put that under the Managers and Reps noses and see what reaction you get.2.7.6 Employees will not be employed on a temporary contract exceeding two years unless it has been agreed by the Employer and the Union that there are very exceptional circumstances. The position of temporary contract Employees will be kept under regular review, with a view to converting to permanent contracts where and when possible.

The last sentence of that quote epitomises the wishy-washy cobblers that constitutes 99% of the new agreement. "Review", "With a view to", "Where and when possible"TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Sorry Andy but there is not much that can be given apart from hang in there. In other words, don't get your hopes up.
