growing number of complaints

Post by footman »

because of the growth in customer complaints in our office a manager with a reputation for bullying as been given the job of sorting this out.To day i was told about a complaint of miss delivery. The first customer complaint in over 10 years on the job as far as i am aware. i was asked to explain why it had happened and told if it happened again i would have to have re training, if it happened again i would go down the conduct code. my reasons are this our start time is 6.15 i arrive on time 6 colleagues have been working at least 30 min prepping their walks, then they start double prepping 30 min before they should. i have to do the same work load but do it at the proper times.management are trying to get us out of the office up to 1 hour earlier than we should be so that we can laps every day. I find myself rushing about trying to do the prepping and get out on time that is why mistakes are being made and i can only see it getting worse. my union rep just shrugs his shoulders and says he cannot stop people coming in early. do i have to join the crowd and come in early myself because i cannot see any other coarse of action.

"i was asked to explain why it had happened"

Personally I'd have gone with "because I'm not a robot".

I've made "many" mistakes over the years. To date only 1 "formal" customer complaint against me. Interestingly, the manager who advised me of it automatically took the customer's side (the customer was "not the full shilling") ; so I'm currently waiting for the next one to see if management always automatically take the customer's side.

"my union rep just shrugs his shoulders and says he cannot stop people coming in early. do i have to join the crowd"

Don't take this as gospel but, I was once told that if you're in the office outside of scheduled hours then in the event of an accident you're not covered.

"told if it happened again i would have to have re training, if it happened again i would go down the conduct code."

This is the bit that interests me. I await finding out if there are laid-down standards of "accuracy" as there are laid-down standards of (for example) attendance.

Hmmm, our d.o. has just put up a board with a league of complaints/mistakes against the corresponding duty. Also a big sign titled Number Of Complaints Yesterday with the number below. Haven't seen the former ever, the latter not in years.
A new drive to make us look like we're s**t?
My walks for the last few weeks look like they've been prepped by Stevie Wonder due to the amount of missorts I find. My current partner has 2 hours to prep 3 entire walks or if he's lucky, just the 2 full walks and just all the non sequenced mail for the third, poor sod.

What is the point of doing that apart from to publicly humiliate the duty holder, who may not be responsible for the complaints anyway?
Perhaps a spell in the stocks during their meal relief would stop a lot of mistakes?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I dont know how others feel, but an individual system that awards postmen such as a monthly payment for full attendance (inclusive of those on holiday) . No complaints, and probably other criteria, which is in the power of the individual rather than team concepts. These things will drive down unwanted costs for the business, and award the individual, as long as it is cost effective to administer. It will be interesting to see what award systems our CWU colleagues will come up with and at what cost in extra work to us.

Is this not a new national thing, with all the complaints now being reported and the managers being made to explain why (we've had lots but most of them concern other companies doorstepping things and delivering things even though there's a redirection).

We had one of these boards in our office, our rep went into the dom's office and told him to take it down because like c c r said, it was humiliating for the concerned duty holder and that he or she was open to ridicule from fellow posties in which case he or she had every right to sue r.m, it was taken down that morning.

"Put a league table up on the union board of management mistakes"

more like a league table of getting a sensible response from a manager to a sensible question!
