Dear Colleague
EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT – THE BIG PICTURE/FRESH START/ALL ABOUT YOU
It has been brought to the attention of the department that the business, in a number of Royal Mail Group Geographies, are attempting to embark upon seemingly new employee engagement activities in some Mail Centres and quite possibly other units/functions that fall within the department’s current remit.
Colleagues will be aware that the Agenda for Growth, Stability and Long Term Success Agreement, currently out to ballot contains the following commitment in Section Two – Delivering Cultural Change.
Employee Engagement
“By the end of June 2014 we will conclude a review of all existing employee engagement initiatives and put in place new and more progressive initiatives that support our shared objectives, a mutual interest culture and leads to well-motivated and highly engaged employees. This review of existing engagement practices will also cover World Class Mail”.
As you are aware the CWU has gone to great lengths to explain the recommended agreement to representatives at all levels, unit, area and division, however I am not convinced that management have delivered the same standard of message. A new culture will take time to build but achieving consensus and fully involving the CWU in the development of all new initiatives has not only been fully committed to but will also be crucial going forward.
Against that backdrop it is particularly disappointing that some managers have failed to either embrace the new approach or have chosen to ignore it by pushing new un-agreed employee involvement initiatives, especially as the subject matter has been so clearly referred to in the proposed agreement.
So to be clear the above mentioned employee involvement initiatives have not been agreed nationally and any attempt to introduce them should be challenged in the first instance by the logic expressed in this LTB or via the IR Framework and status quo procedures if management fail to respond to your common sense request to respect the new relationship approach.
We would be very grateful if you could keep the department advised accordingly.
Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be addressed to Terry Pullinger, Assistant Secretary, email:

Yours sincerely
Terry Pullinger
