Re: More closure rumours
Abit of wishful thinking but I think PO is on borrowed time now but also so is SO which may make it easier in the long term for PO staff to cope with as I think the plan is that PO relocate up the A27 short term as I've heard SO are moving as I think the airport want the land back so we'll get a spanking new World Class MC.fmrPOSTIE wrote:Royal Mail have never said PO Mail centre is closing!

Re: More closure rumours
Gatwick MC might also be on borrowed time was well as when I looked at the potential locations for the 2nd runway at Gatwick, I think one of them includes where Gatwick MC is.rainbowwarrior72 wrote:Abit of wishful thinking but I think PO is on borrowed time now but also so is SO which may make it easier in the long term for PO staff to cope with as I think the plan is that PO relocate up the A27 short term as I've heard SO are moving as I think the airport want the land back so we'll get a spanking new World Class MC.fmrPOSTIE wrote:Royal Mail have never said PO Mail centre is closing!
@hubbahubba does the old Ford site come under Southampton City Council or Hampshire County Council?

Re: More closure rumours
Gatwick could be and there is a plan B if it goes ahead. The problem is that SE1-28 would be a trek from wherever they move to as the plan is to close and merge with Croydon

Southampton CC i believe, but the Ford site is a red herring.SpacePhoenix wrote:Gatwick MC might also be on borrowed time was well as when I looked at the potential locations for the 2nd runway at Gatwick, I think one of them includes where Gatwick MC is.rainbowwarrior72 wrote:Abit of wishful thinking but I think PO is on borrowed time now but also so is SO which may make it easier in the long term for PO staff to cope with as I think the plan is that PO relocate up the A27 short term as I've heard SO are moving as I think the airport want the land back so we'll get a spanking new World Class MC.fmrPOSTIE wrote:Royal Mail have never said PO Mail centre is closing!

If,and its a big if,SOMC was to close/merge in the near future,i think you'd be looking at a new site on the M3 or M27 corridor, and any new MC would certainly have a packet sorting machine, and to make that cost effective it would probably handle all 2c parcels for a massive geographical area, much like the TOPPS2000 FSM that the larger MCs now use.
same as it ever was...
