LTB 73/2014 Long Term Fatigue Study of the Delivery Role
Letter to Branches
No. 73/14 Ref: 600 Date: 31st January 2014
To: Branches with POSTAL Members
Dear Colleague
Long Term Fatigue Study of the Delivery Role – Initial Findings
Further to LTB 293/13 dated 3rd May 2013 this LTB is to provide Branches and CWU Representatives with an update on the current position at phase 2 of the study.
There will be further studies and we are considering studies being carried out during the peak summer months when it is expected to be hotter, although as we are all aware that can’t be guaranteed.
We will of course continue to provide updates in due course and will also be discussing the outcomes with Royal Mail.
The initial findings of the study which have been anonymised are attached to this LTB.
Any enquiries to Bob Gibson’s Office, quoting reference 600
Email address: hnutley@cwu.org
Yours sincerely

That makes 4 day weeks look like rather a bad idea

Re: LTB 73/2014 Long Term Fatigue Study of the Delivery Role
I find it hard to understand why some posties want to work 6 days a week for 5 straight weeks and then a week off. A week off doing what - some of them even do Overtime in during their days off...
Also folks having 10 hours day is insane in my opinion - unless they work in offices where the delivery span is not that high (above 5 hours)
All that just for days off and more saturdays...
We now have 4 older posties going on to 3 days (24 hrs) FT weeks in the last 12-15 months; fatigue is definitely kicking in.
Its also instructive that the Part-timers are feeling the strain much more... They seemed to have very little slack in their day - they get in and start prepping their walks and out; hardly any socialising and little break, and they they get rushed to get out and then to get back by FT staff that are often ready before them. This is shared van scenarios I am talking about...

Actual Delivery V Planned Delivery times: Although this was not explained, one will hope the posties were not rushing around as usual...
Delivery times can never be exact anyways. What about telling us how much time was spent on the job from start to finish?
