The technology already exists to track us, not that I am necessarily against it as like most of you I am sure that the uneven rounds and favourites in the office have been getting away with murder for years.

I had an Amazon package delivered by DPD the other day and I was able to track the driver (complete with name) on a real time map and see what number package he was delivering and how many to mine along with a time estimate for when he was due to arrive.

This really is a great service as I was able to plan my day around it and be ready at the appropriate time.

Lets be honest we know the ones that go home before coming back to the office later etc

On logistics we are tracked all the time. They now how long a vehicle is stationary and also when you stop somewhere you should not. Not a problem if you do your job correctly.

I also had a text message telling me my item had been delivered, only problem is there was no sign of the courier or my parcel, never did turn up. This was not RM but another courier so system isn't infallible.

Courier firms have been using PDA's to track drivers for years.

I have experience with a system that tracked a relatively small fleet of around 15 drivers. The 'jobs' are sent to the PDA via the software installed at the office, the driver then chooses to either accept or decline the job from the PDA. Every time a driver does something with the PDA, the action is logged. You can see the exact location of the driver, the speed they are moving at, how many jobs they have allocated/accepted/completed, when they were completed, who signed for them and at what time. If they log off or run out of battery, you can see that they've logged off and at what time. You can also view everyone's position on a map in real time, at the same time, so seeing where they are in relation to each other. You can view where people have been in the past so for example search for where driver 21 was yesterday between 11:00 and 12:00 and it will show you a time-lapse of all their actions. Invasion of privacy? Either you worked with the system, or looked for another job...

Anyway all of this was done using a comparatively mid-range system, by a regional smallish company with nowhere near the resources that RM has available. The PDA's themselves where cheaper, small and more fragile than RM's ones which are considerably more robust and durable in comparison.
