To the Scots on here (or anyone interested)
Now that the SNP are in charge up here, should they break ties with Westminster (Labour Government) and form their own postal service, employing current RM staff in Scotland into a newly formed Scottish Postal Service?

In the very long term that might be a goer,However thats a long way off,the negotiations regarding the split of liabilites, such as pensions etc would not be resolved in days or months but if you are expecting favourable treatment off the SNP right now that that aint gonna happen,as far as I can see they are courting the business vote and that means not siding with unions, and to be honest I have more in common with my fellow CWU members down South than I do with the likes of Jim Mathers.
The more you know, the worse it gets.

Sadly WR, we only have as much power as the MPs at Westminister allow us. The Scottish Government is very much a paper tiger whose only purpose is to ban things. I doubt we would be able to set something like that up, not without England's permission anyway

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Scottish Postal Service
We all know the monetary loss on every USO social letter at present.
Have you any idea how huge a 'subsidy' the USO in Scotland gets from south of the Border with its higher population densities and correspondingly lower collection, distribution and delivery costs.
I don't see the point in getting into a pro-anti independence argument here but I think the economics of a separate Scottish Postal Service with a sparsely populated landscape, huge distances and all those islands make a separate service a pipe-dream.
The cities would end up with a myriad of companies serving businesses - this will happen anyway - and the rural deliveries will be franchised out - this will also happen in next 5-10 years.
Ain't going to be a lot left for a separate postal service and we all know too well how certain Scottish manager mentioned in the thread tried to f*** us the last time by creating an all-out unofficial strike to starve us back to work.
We would just exchange one set of baw-bags for another - although maybe jock in the box Crozier would be sent home in disgrace by AL to run the Scottish Postal Service - can't wait for that day to dawn lol.
