Further work with Royal Mail after Christmas

Just wondered how many Christmas casuals had been kept on by Royal Mail after Christmas. A handful in my office were still asked to come in for sorting work this week. Some have been offered postwomen/postmen jobs.

Yeh, apparently it was quicker for them to take on Christmas casuals for the jobs as they were already security checked etc and they knew how they worked. It also saved them having to go through advertising the jobs etc.

You may find that is not following the law or correct procedure.

My MC did something similar last year and then had to cancel the offers and advertise the jobs to all people and include Angard casuals in the advertisement. The Angard casuals then took precedence over the Christmas casuals - length of service and experience took precedence over the few weeks experience of Christmas casuals. Be interesting to see if the offers to the Christmas casuals stay without any uproar about the fact they were not advertised to allow people to apply.

Have they actually been offered full time contracts? Or have they just been transferred to Angard?

I was kinda hoping that I'd be asked to continue on at a nearer office after we cleared up this year. I turned it down last year and I was just curious to see what the other place was like :(

I don't know if they did this with anyone at Eurocentral, but I got told just to keep checking the RM website to see if any vacancies came up.

Last day was originally scheduled to be Christmas Eve but was then given 27th and 28th. Line manager took my phone number down and said I'd be transferred to Angard but have had no contact from either RM or Angard since finishing on 28th December.

It takes a few weeks for the transfer - it is not as straight forward as it sounds.

RM need to send you your P45 and Holiday pay.

Angard need to do your security checks, new identity passes, new payroll, send you a contract to sign etc.

Think last year it took between 4 and 6 weeks.

I finished as a Xmas casual on Jan 10th but had already had an e-mail from Angard saying I was being transferred over and my contract with them would begin on 27th. I got the contract last week and posted it back, as well as a letter from Royal Mail saying they were preparing my ID card. So now I guess it's just a matter of waiting for a text/phonecall when work is available?

Next day: Just had a phonecall and have work tomorrow late shift :)

Got the holiday pay in my account yesterday as scheduled. No P45 as yet.
