:lfo :cfo Sent the following e-mail to Clinton Manning Dear sir,
I wish to thank you for writing a truthful article that gives some of the facts around this dispute. The spanish practice that Adam Crozier was referring to, namely finishing up to two hours early is part of the SDD (Single Daily Delivery) agreement and in fact we were encouraged by Alan Leighton to adopt the practice. It's known in the trade as 'job and knock'. For these two greasy spivs to now claim it is a malpractice beggars belief, as they encouraged us to continue with it, They know perfectly well that it in fact saves millions in overtime payments as a lot of walking duties are overloaded. I myself have an overloaded walk and because I do the job properly RM have to regularly pay myself or someone else to complete it. The climate at RM is one of management threats, intimidation and downright bullying. When interviewed by John Humphries, Adam Crozier told more lies in the shortest time I have ever heard. Once again thanks for telling it like it really is,

ROYAL Mail's top brass were living up to their bungling Laurel and Hardy image yesterday.

As Adam Crozier accused union leaders of talking "cobblers" you could almost hear Ollie's immortal catchphrase: "That's another fine mess you've got me into Stanley".

Crozier, conspicuous by his absence during much of this dispute, finally broke cover, lashing out at the CWU for defending "out-dated Spanish practices".

In particular he accused posties of not working all the hours they're paid for. Branding your workforce shirkers during a fierce dispute doesn't seem like the brightest of ideas.

In one sense Crozier is right. Traditionally posties have been able to knock off once they finish their deliveries. Crozier doesn't like "job 'n finish" as it's known in the business. If there's work to be done he thinks staff should scuttle back to the office and help out until their shift ends.

Crozier and chairman Allan Leighton's demand for "flexibility" like this is now one of the two sticking points in a dispute which started about pay.

The dynamic duo insist Royal Mail must modernise to compete with rivals, with a flexible workforce the key. But most modern managements want people to DO THE WORK not DO THE TIME.

If posties are denied the chance to go home "early" there is no incentive to work quickly or sacrifice meal breaks as they often do now.

In the name of flexibility Royal Mail also wants to give managers power to make staff switch shifts or jobs at the drop of a hat. But as posties aren't that well paid, many have other halves who work. The early starts means posties are often finish in time to collect kids from school. Putting an end to that will cause huge headaches for many families.

The second problem is the poor quality of Royal Mail's middle managers.

Many are former posties who've been promoted but had little or no training. Giving them too much freedom and authority will be a recipe for confrontation and disorder.

The other major bone of contention is Royal Mail's plans to slash the pensions of 165,000 workers.

The plot was shamelessly denied by bosses when the Mirror revealed it back in July. But the changes, including making posties work five years longer, are all back on management's agenda.

It is true that Royal Mail needs to take action as it has a £6 billion shortfall in the fund. But this is largely because the company paid nothing into the scheme for 10 years in the 1990s.

It is hardly surprising the workforce feel angry that they are being made to pay for that neglect.

Just reading that has made me feel 100 times better.....the amount of people I have had to convince that the reason we are going out on strike has nothing to do with the 2.5% increase......but everything to do with the strings attached!

To many people think "greedy postal workers......" when in truth, its quite the opposite.

I personally would have took a wage freeze had they not bought in this "flexibility" and messed with the pensions!

Heres hoping that all this ends in the near future!

At last some the truth in the media for you lads.

My income from my business for the last 6 days or so has been down 90% just like many of your wages. But I still support your stand against Crozier & co. :Applause

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Strollingman welcome to the board. A business man that knows the value of the Post Office :Applause
Perhaps you could contact your local Radio Station and paper and show that there are businesses that need and appreciate the situation the posties find themselves in, rather than just moan about how it is casing them grief and loss of business.

Thanks for the support Strollingman :Applause We know most of the business customers we collect and deliver to appreciate what we do and support their posties. Unfortunately our senior managers regard you with almost as much contempt as they do their own workers - they think that only the 10 biggest posters are important.
Let's hope we win this dispute, get rid of Leighton and Crozier, and get back to providing a first class service. :lfo :cfo

OOOHHH thats going to hurt them. That will be flying round the office today. After doing their 12-14 hour shifts during the strike. They have now been unmasked, spot on article. Saw the geezer on bbc news crying about his smoked fish business suffering, but full credit to the postie who answered, he gave a credible response to the geezer. Bang on the mark, if you don't support us now, you will have no business in the future. Knocking bet he's a rep.
Anyway back to business.
Friday for mail centre staff.
Saturday for delivery.
Monday for drivers.
Solution everybody gets a night out.
