Re: waiting for partners
We've only a couple of van-potatoes in our DO, P&L drivers who put the I in TEAM.
Nobody likes to work with either of them. They each do the bare minimum possible.
They have the smallest loops, split their loops down and regularly expect their partner to 'catch them up' by walking on to the next loop.
One is just bone-idle, got the smallest loops in the entire office and still tries to offload all large and heavy parcels onto his partner.
The other was an "officer" in the forces and sees himself above everyone else, including management.
Their partners never come in early, as they know they've to prep when they get in, even on a quiet day.

Re: waiting for partners
the model week is what your revision was based on, its also what each weeks traffic forecast should be compared to by your rep at the weekly resourcing meeting and if traffic forecast is above model week he should be informing DOM that as such he should be covering duty if needed on OT instead of Lapsing and if DOM doesnt then he should be lodging a disagreement over itmlw wrote:Really and when is a model weeK?,we are lapsing every day regardless in fact we only stopped lapsing 3 weeks before christmas and started straight after,as someone said idiots who come in early so they do not finish late are to blame , you should do the job properly 1/6 th of d2d a day when you come in on time take break and ask dom if he will pay you for being late if ANSWERclashcityrocker wrote:Lapsing is hoisted upon you when your traffic is below model week.Chelseablue wrote:Reg lapsing,,come in earlyx, flappers, please stop it as you are all the reason lapsing is hoisted upon us .

Start by calling someone else a Wodney or a Wupert - but you didn't hear that from me.freelunch wrote: The other was an "officer" in the forces and sees himself above everyone else, including management.

Re: waiting for partners
If your rep was using it the weekly resource meetings it will mean less lapsing and it is part of the revision so you should all have seen itChelseablue wrote:Model week ,yeah yeah ,,

You push away and pull along... Next time, you see a paper boy and girl - observe!
Also we have covered the issues of coming to an abrupt stop when you are pushing. I am sorry , you have less control when you are pushing something away from you - it hits a stone or into a crack or hole and you will feel the strain on your wrist...
How about going up a kerb? Moreover, you are covering about 1/3 of your immediate view of the ground by the LWT/Bags...
I find that nonsense, to be honest. The problem with pulling, I find, is that the wheel hits the back of my leg. Unless I use extra effort and hold the handle with carpet arms, to keep the trolley away from me. Add to that the lean forward, if you're pulling the trolley up hill, and you have a real awkward walk.
Looking ahead of the trolley, any obstacles are easily avoided, with the easy forward steering. As for kerbs, it takes no effort to spin the trolley on the spot and pull it up the kerb.

You may well find it nonsense, but you would of course be wrong!BarnsleyLackey wrote:chrisj wrote:I think it is a simple law of physics - pulling is easier than pushing; especially if when they LWT is at its heaviest.

If the trolley is striking the back of your leg, then first of all you should be able to demonstrate that you are performing the task correctly. If you are using the LWT correctly then your Manager can order you an extension handle, (initially designed for those 6' 4" and over).
The loops are supposed to be designed to have more weight during the downhill phase and less on uphill sections. If this cannot be done a risk assessment should be carried out and measures taken to minimise or remove the risk.
If you are pulling the trolley then by your very position you are shielding the LWT from obstacles.

Re: waiting for partners
Whilst the recommended method of moving the LWT is by pulling, pushing is also allowed under the SSOW http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 15&t=46762" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; however, the guidelines for pushing it are more restrictive

Extension handle eh? Got to admit that I've never heard of them. Sounds fiddly, and I guess while you're holding the end of said handle, your actions when having to avoid hazards like bins and dog crap will be greatly exaggerated. Common sense moves, like blind corners and kerbs, yes I pull it. Everything else the trolley is in front.

Re: waiting for partners
You had to do bag drops? Get serious. Bag drops dont exist under P&L.. That's why you have a van.chrisj wrote:This point actually resonates... very few people are actually that slow at walking (more like some are very fast at walking than others). But someone knocking on 8 to 10 doors to deliver a parcel takes the biscuit in a park and loop and that during Xmas is just maddening. At the end, this partner could not deliver the said parcel and he had to card it. I had left the van did about 2 packets in a Close and double back with the van to see what was going on - I thought he had had an misshap.tolkien wrote: but he is old school and believes we still offer a service ,time to talk to customers deliver to a neighbour, etc ,he once took over 20 minutes to deliver a parcel walking back wards and forwards up and down the road, while i did his loop and he could not see anything wrong when i pointed out that i had just done his loop,
What I did in the end was try to do all the packets if I could instead of trying to do it together at the end. This person in question is so slow that we abandoned park and loop and working as a pair from the van. He went old school but with a trolley instead of a bike and I had to do bag drops (well of my start) and virtually all the packets...The reason why I have lasted so long in this job is the ability to work on my own when out but that luxury has been well and truly shattered.![]()
Some posties do the talking and going the extra miles for tips and some just do but either way, the new way of working and consideration for one's partner should stop this practice.

Re: waiting for partners
This way of working is utter c+ap!, i load the van every day(partners loops and mine), fetch both the PDA`s, get the van key`s, specials and fill in the log book! and I have to pass my so called partner his next bag everytime we pull up to do a loop!, the DOM say`s we make a good team though, who am I to argue?..
