A ROUGHNECK lashed out at a postman after “seeing red” when a mail trolley hit him.

Kevin Morrison had been on a “binge” after the death of his dad when the attack took place.

At Aberdeen Sheriff Court, the 33-year-old admitted headbutting Matthew Smart on Cattofield Terrace, Aberdeen, on January 23 last year.

Fiscal Depute Lynzi Souter said Mr Smart was carrying out his duties when he saw Morrison walking backwards. He moved his trolley and called out to Morrison to watch his back.

At this point Morrison turned round and made a remark about Mr Smart running into him. He then headbutted the postman.

Defence agent Jane Dickers said: “On the day in question he was in a bad way, his father had died and the funeral was the day before.”

She said Morrison claimed the trolley made contact with him and he “saw red” and reacted.

Sheriff Christopher Shead told Morrison: “This was an assault without any justification whatsoever.”

He handed Morrison, whose address was given as 51 Cattofield Terrace, Aberdeen, a community payback order with 60 hours of unpaid work to be carried out within nine months.
