I think you'll find that if the duty holder doesn't get to do his own duty then there is little reason for them to come in, if it was me then if I don't get to stay on my duty then I don't come in..................makes the decision easy for management.

It's not you're duty for that day . Someone has signed for that duty for that day , you choose whether to sh it on him or not .

People have to realise that it is not simply the managers that are causing the problems but fellow posties who are being selfish and inflexible...

In offices where managers struggle to get people to do overtime, the manager will go for the easy option i.e ask a walk holder to come in and do his walk... The manager's priority is to get the walk covered...

Some duty holders might genuinely not know some rounds but I think that is just being lazy and not trying - this is especially so now that we have shared vans.

The other thing is that most floaters and reserves can do a lot of different rounds - so it is hard to refuse a manager's reasonable request especially when the person can do the job.

If a floater is regularly being moved then a grievance might be the way forward but we all have to be conscious of what the local agreement is.

If a manager need a cover on a saturday and a walk holder offers to come in, the manager will bite off the hand of the walk holder; and will no give two hoots about the reserve or floater.

* Sometimes as a reserve being moved is not always a bad thing :whistle
