Tbh dingo under the new agreement it won't matter what the figure is because there isn't one. It's predominantly FT and I wonder what figure that represents to the two signatories - do you think they'll be broadly the same? Things that remain broadly the same means nothing but broadly the same BUT can be subject to change can it not? Particularly if there are differing viewpoints. It's a shame the union can't be honest and has to peddle a shambolic proposal to the members instead of admitting they have failed.

Predominantly and Broadly are just two words that DVB has highlighted in this agreement. I shudder to think how many other words that are so open to interpretation, litter the rest of this agreement.

dingo wrote:Actually the 69/31 has moved to 71/29 and will move again as the last couple of hundred revisions take place and sadly some of the FTCs who have mainly been recruited on part time under 2 years will not have a job as the revisions decrease jobs.

The BT 2010 status of the 75/25 split was always going to be at the end of the BT revisions not half way through but once all was completed.

89 revisions are still to be deployed and there are 2101 FTC still in place below 2 years. The majority of these will be made permanent but FTCs in the offices still to do a revision may not be needed at that office post revision.
When did the Union accept that revisions were led by efficiency/resourcing as opposed to delivery methods? Why are people losing their jobs post revision?

so we have revisions just to get more part-timers in what a disgrace.so our union is happy in helping out
on the unemployment figures it is down to these bit and pieces dutys that our job is in this mess.
if everyone was full-time we would have less arguments in most offices. our job is full-time and until
our union stops living this tory part-time/contracts they will be the ones to lose out.
to stop our union in destroying itself vote no.

Whenever we get a new starter, manager always puts them on part-time contract.

Legal protection 2.7.7 states "the level of part time employees contracted hours will be reviewed by the employer and the cwu locally on a six monthly basis.Where appropriate, increased contracted hours will be offered to reflect the hours actually worked and planned" Also now the company has to provide the union with the data every 3 months to justify the ft /pt mix.

And you think they will, and you think the union will care, and you think this is quantifiable? Now lets just say that those hours are required through long term sickness, you think that'll count, lets say that for 10 weeks someone is working above the contracted level, then he works his contracted hours for 6 weeks, then he goes back to working longer hours.

Where appropriate? Who determines? You decide!

The issue about reviewing part contracted hours and staffing issues and traffic and so was also in the last agreement.

The problem is that it is a Review and often there is very little from the employer/managers to initiate a review process. And in most cases the Reps are probably not aware that they could start such a review and the terms...

There are so many things in the old agreement and now the new one that should be happening but they do not for various reasons and the Union itself cannot or will not police these things.

* I am sure it also states somewhere that there should be a consultation with the Union prior to employing a part timer on temporary contract - but does that happen?

Everything sounds oh so plausible..........on paper, like the last one - touted as the deal of the century, though how any sane person could describe it as such is beyond me. This one is supposedly ground breaking presumably on the strength of the legally binding portions of the deal which not only is it ground breaking it is also strike breaking and has no real substance when you take into consideration the get out clauses for Royal Mail. :cuppa

The issue is that Ivan Walker from Thompson solicitors who was employed by the Union to agree the legal contract explained this quite well along with the other legally binding contract.

1 Royal Mail and the CWU have recognised the figure they want to aim for is 75/25 , however that figure will move above and below that rate on different weeks and periods of the year. It is currently 71/29 and there are over 200 revisions still to be deployed. There are Fixed terms contracts to be made permanent and over 1600 offices there people who leave the company or get dismissed or get ill Heath retired or transfer. The important thing is within the legal contract the business has to open up their books on this and it is subject to a legal test.

2. The reason it says where appropriate on a part time basis is because if a part timer is doing increased hours against someone's duty who is maternity leave , sick leave or holiday or if they are doing late collections or belateds that is not going to get them an increased contract as it is someone's else duty. However if they are doing their own duty more hours consistently or against someone who has left or other work which is not someone else's duty then they will get an increase in their contract hours.

3. Sadly the reason why Fixed term contracts are used in some circumstances is to avoid permanent people being made compulsory redundant. As if you are reducing full time duties in office a and you have no ft duties cause you have employed all the new people on a permanent contract then you clearly have a problem. Which is why we have a guarantee on fixed term contracts over 2 years getting a permeant duty.

4. As Ivan explained to the meeting today the exceptional causes would have to game changing for Royal Mail to activate them such as a meteorite hitting earth. they could say that TNT have not got more work as when they privatised the company TNT was in the prospectus.

5. On the day when the RMT and TESSA two great unions are on the verge of a dispute over station staff having to reapply for their jobs with other less paid applicants we are on the verge of stopping the employer for at least 5 years destroying the company. Remember the potential and it is happening that a number of the smaller investors are buying up shares in order to have a say at board level and we know what they will be saying is more profit now.

There is a two day delivery workshop on the new agreement on Monday and Tuesday attended by the Divisional Reps and 20 Delivery Directors. Already a lot has been agreed to roll out including the anti bullying stuff under Dignity and Respect.

Yes all very timely, scary and wow a 2 day workshop on delivery for Divisional Reps - would that be an attempt to perhaps deal with the unrest on the shop floor.
