Been told to keep it quiet!!!!!

Post by phronsias »

Hi
This is an on going saga, I'm off sick with work related stress and IBS, I got to the point I couldn't get out of bed, I cant face going back to be bullied, management ignore my Atos reports, which say redeployment to a MC,I got a call from a manager yesterday about my forthcoming stress assessment and he said the CWU might oppose my redeployment. Straight after I rang the area rep, he knows my situation, he said he would ring the rep in the office where I want to go. He rang me back and said there was no chance getting in, on any shift, because RM have given a large number of staff redundancy. He said I should not say I was not able to do a walk because RM would come back and say there are no inside jobs and force IHR on me. I rang CWU HQ and was told the solution wasn't a transfer, I was better off on a walk, he said my area rep told him my problems were resolved. I said I wanted a transfer, he told me to speak to my area rep, I've got a Atos ISA soon (I hope) What can I do? I'm not getting any support from the union , can the union block my redeployment?
Thanks again!!!!!!!!

No as far as I know the Union cannot block it, they are not the employers after all.

In my opinion the Manager who contacted you has got you looking at this from the wrong direction, I wonder why he would do that.

Perhaps he has coloured your view, and you are looking at this from a darker viewpoint that the Union is presenting it.

The rep has perhaps warned you that Royal Mail believes its not a reasonable adjustment for you to go to an MC because there are no vacancies, if there have been redundancies this may be a possibility. But because this manager warned you that the Union was blocking it, you have read more into the situation than there actually is.

You may want redeployment rather than IHR. But if RM in all honesty can't make any reasonable adjustments, and you don't want to continue working on delivery, then IHR is your only option. However, I find it difficult to believe that given its size Royal Mail can't find you an indoor role/function. Perhaps the local MC is closing ?

Thanks
The MC Im talking about is not closing and has over 1500 staff and that's a guess on the low side. Im not getting any help from CWU or management and was told by the union rep to keep off this site, but this is the only place I can get any sort of help.
Thanks again

how long have you been on the sick
Have Atos the occupational health provider done a primilary report on you
Has the Occupational health provider given any recomendations as to a back to work plan
Is your own GP doing any referals

Why am i not surprised by this?
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

ATOS have recommended the indoor work and your employer is supposed to make reasonable adjustments in order to facilitate that. If your Manager cannot find indoor work for you locally, then it is their responsibility to look for similar opportunities at alternative offices within a reasonable commuting distance.

It is not your job to find and make an alternative arrangement but your represenataive should be asking whether there is an employee currently working indoors at any unit within your area capable of performing delivery work? If so I would suggest it reasonable to make the adjustment by swapping roles.

With 1500 in the MC you would think a note on their notice board for a swap would get a result .

Hi and thanks
I don't think anyone working in a mail centre would want to transfer to delivery, its a different world.

If you want a transfer to the Mail Centre, then by all means bide you time and wait for one, it has however nothing to do with your current predicament.

If the Occupational Health provider has specified a move to a MC and your Employer states that a MC adjustment is not available, which your Union AR appears to agree with, then there is nothing to prevent them making an offer of IHR.
If the OH provider simply states indoor work, then unless you are normally based in a remote location your Employer would find really difficult to prove that adjustments cannot be made, at least on a temporary basis. (It would of course be dependant upon the specifics of your capabilities and the expected duration of any rehabilitation or reassessment)

Find out on the QT if your local mailcentre is employing casuals, If they are which is common it makes it difficult to argue that there isn't any work there for a Royal Mail employee.

To be honest get as much info/dirt on the mailcentre as you can. If they have hundreds of staff they'll have a staff churn rate like everywhere else and bods will be leaving on a relatively regular basis.
Get someone to give you the nod when someone leaves and get right on the phone asking why you can't have his/her job. To be honest it's farcical to tell you that they can't get you a place in a big MC in something like a 6 month timescale.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I agree, so why are those responsible for this not helping?

The DSM may be attempting to force a IHR, and the Manager toeing the line, but why is the Union not fulfilling their responsibility towards their Member?

there has to be more to this story...

I agree with you, there has to be more to this story but I cant figure it out. I did put a complaint against a union rep to CWU HQ and it was sent to the area rep I deal with and he buried the complaint

My wife works at the MC I want to transfer to, and they do have casuals plus they are short staffed on nights, management have asked for people on other shifts to transfer to nights.

Hi
There are four vacancies on nights going to be advertised in the next two weeks, I rang the operations manager at my office at 7.15 am this morning, he said to contact the union because it would be quicker, he went on to say, if there was a surplus on other shifts they would want to fill the vacancies internally and not from someone from outside the office but he would make enquiries. Does this sound fair?
