Am I insured to drive?

As an Angard casual am I insured to drive Royal Mail vans? I hold a clean driving license but I have not taken the driving assessment.

Is there anywhere where this is officially stated? I have a friend that needs convincing, he says it may be against company policy but if you are driving on RM business then you are insured.

None of this covers insurance, just H&S, investing in people etc.

If you are allowed to sign out a van and RM self insure then maybe you are insured. The assessment is not a prerequisite of RMs insurance with an insurance company, they self insure.

The answer is still no for 2 reasons.

1. The business has no specific insurance for vehicles. It has a bond registered at Lloyds of London (IIRC). Royal Mail acts as its own insurers in case of accidents and pays out of this bond. For very large claims its own Public Liability Insurance will cover any claims.

2. The policy of Royal Mail is that everyone should undergo an assessment. Despite what managers say (or mates) you are not authorised to drive unless you have passed this risk assessment. Therefore you cannot driver until you have done a changeover.

You're only an authorised driver if you have had a driving assessment, that's the business policy.
Unauthorised use of vehicles is not covered by Royal Mail Insurance, that's also the business policy.
That isn't difficult to understand.
