Tuffley residents live ONE mile from Royal Mail sorting office but told they have to travel to Brockworth depot SIX miles away

TUFFLEY residents have hit out at changes by the Royal Mail which mean they have to travel six miles to pick up their post despite living less than one mile from another sorting office.
Resident Ryan Thomas said it was ‘unacceptable’ that he was now having to take a 40-minute round trip to pick up missed post.
He said: “I live about one mile from the Royal Mail collection depot at Olympus Park, in Quedgeley, but I now have to travel six miles to the depot at Hurricane Road, in Brockworth.
“This I feel is unacceptable, considering there is the depot at Olympus Park and makes no customer service sense whatsoever.
“Furthermore, the collection times at the Brockworth depot are not suitable to a full time worker like myself as by the time I’ve got home and driven there it’s closed.”
Royal Mail spokesman Mike Norman said: “‘Last year a delivery revision was undertaken at Gloucester South Delivery Office and as part of the revision and to improve the quality of service, changes were made to the way we deliver to a small number of addresses in the Gloucester area.
“To make the changes, postcode areas that were split across two different delivery offices were re-aligned and are now delivered from the same delivery office.
“For the GL2 postcode area this is now Gloucester South Delivery Office and for the GL4 postcode area, which covers Tuffley, it is Gloucester North Delivery Office. The changes have meant that mail we were unable to deliver, for a small number of addresses, must be collected from the new delivery office.
“These changes are essential to respond to changes in the postal market, as we are now delivering fewer letters but more parcels. Our changes help to safeguard the future of the service and place the company on a viable and sustainable footing.”
Royal Mail said that any customers who receive a ‘Something for You’ card asking them to collect an item from the sorting office can also have the item redelivered free of charge to their home or to a neighbour’s address, or for a small fee, to their Post Office.
The firm also said that deliveries to Emerald Close, which were halted when a postman was bitten by a dog, have now returned to normal and that the issue had been resolved.

Royal Mail are offering to re-deliver their mail for a small fee to a Post Office of their choice, what more do they want, RM is profit making company not a public service, anyway the Union must have agreed these changes so why put all the blame on Royal Mail. ???

This was done so that when Gloucester closes in March, Bristol won't be bamboozled when handling manual mail, i.e. trying to work out that GL2 7XX goes to one office and GL2 8XX goes to the other. Likewise with GL4 XXX addresses. I guess it makes sense.

They've done that story before, not sure why they're running it again.
