lost pda

Hi, I finished work late on 23rd December as it was a very busy day.When I got back to the office I rushed through the usual dropping slipped packets and handing in bike key signing in etc.I hadn't realised that I had lost my pda I was in such a rush with going over my time.A member of the public handed it to another postman after Christmas and I was still unaware I had lost it.My manager this morning suspended me but then retracted until a fact finding on Friday.We are still very new to the pda but it's not looking good after 21 years of totally clean service.Am I looking down the barrell of a gun?

This is the official line that your Manager could take, Quoted from the Conduct Code,
19 LOSS OF OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
All losses of property (including cash or valuables) or damage to official property must be reported to the manager. Where loss or damage is clearly attributable to negligence or carelessness, or is deliberate, disciplinary action may be taken.

But in your case I do not think you have too much to worry about especially as the PDA was returned, probs a bit of coaching/counciling, speak to your Local Rep, if not in Union think about joining (21 yrs)

How can you lose a PDA if you have it in your pocket at all times except when in use. So it ruins the trousers but you can always other new ones...

My 10 step way to do it (lose PDA);
1. Scan item to be delivered on approach to front door
2. Knock, wait, curse
3. Put down PDA, bundle of mail and scanned item whilst cursing
4. Pee'd off, take out pen and P739
5. Re-knock loudly with my "rentman" knock , curse louder
6. Endorse item and begin filling out P739 leaving time, name and address to last, bang door one last time
7. Remove code sticker from item (signed for/special) and affix to P739, put undelivered item into pouch, and pen into pocket
8. Retrieve bundle of mail whilst cursing some more
9. Deliver P739
10. Angrily walk away cursing the motherf***ing tards who live in the bast*** sh****ip of a house

how about during your fact finding interview you bring up the fact that you were suspended. if you are lucky the manager will mention that this decision was overturned, you could then ask why?
In all instances you must ask why.
why were you suspended?
why were you reinstated?
i'm sure one response will be till the fact finding interview had taken place.
suspension for something like this would require authorisation at DSM level.
My point being ask questions, take control of the interview, make sure that the notes contain your questions and their answers.

lost mine about a year ago,wrote a report saying i had retraced my route but to no avail, no charge ,just told to be more careful, turned up 5 days later when customer came in to collect item,found it on dustbin,relieved ,but annoyed he had kept it for 5 days.
