We were told on the picket line today by one of the most prominent Union reps in Scotland that Royal Mail plan to make us wear a GPRS while out on delivery. They will then know what time you finish your walk at. The plan to bank the hours and then at the end of the week/month will "insist" that you work the hours you owe them.
He reckons they will try to force you to take out another delivery or go back to the office and sort MS.
He also thinks they may use it against you when it comes to the Christmas pressure.
what we heard was that we are to get scanners for reading the electric metres and in that will be a gps that they will be tracking with maybe that will stop people running round the deliveries
Yes ive heard these rumours. A glove type of thing that you can use to scan registered letters and or collection boxes i seem to remember. But as we all know Royal Mail takes ages to do anything so when this is planned i just dont know.
Told last wk in wtl that gps are going to be fitted into vans within the next month. However if you do your job proper then you should have nothing to worry about
I think they plan to put barcodes or a scanner in your pouch box. You would either have to sacn the barcode with some sort of device. Or when you opened you box it would automatically scan your gprs and send a message back to them.
Location: Cocytus. Waiting for Leighton and Crozier to arrive

How much will these little gadgets cost? I thought their main priority was cutting costs, not needlessly spending money they allegedly don't have on things we don't need.

They were putting them into our vans as they brought them back on Wednesday. I saw it as we had a picket line at 12.00

We have had trackers in our vans for about a month!!! You have a swipe card type thing that you use every time you use a van so it knows whos driving the vehicle where and when!!!
They can even tell when your having a s**t now!!!

WELL IF THEY HAD'NT ALREADY THOUGHT OF IT,
THEN THEY HAVE NOW
WAY TO GO SUNSHINE YOU'LL BE A MANAGER YET!
The trackers ive been told are to help the mangers identify exactly where you are and when, they also record your speed, breaking and acceleration. If the tracker stops for fifteen minutes, it will alert the office, as the programme they use will be able to do this. My manager stated that it will be useful in distribution, as if something pops up, missed collection point etc, they'll ring the closest officer , so as to do adhoc collections (guess they'll phone your mobile as drivers havent got radios). The competitors have had them some time. Interesting......
