A robber faked a seizure in order to launch a CS spray attack on a Post Office worker.

The raid happened at the Post Office on Broadhaven Square, Miles Platting, when one man collapsed on the ground pretending to be ill.

The 41-year-old postmaster raced from a secure back room to help but as he did so a second man sprayed him in the face with CS spray and pushed him back into the room.

Both robbers then entered the secure area and grabbed a large amount of cash before fleeing.

Several thousands pounds were stolen in the raid, which happened on Thursday, December 19. However, police arrested one man shortly afterwards and recovered much of the cash.

But detectives are appealing for information about the second man and remaining cash.

Det Con Jamie Heaton, investigating, said: “Unfortunately, due to the speed with which events unfolded, the efforts made by the offenders to cover their faces and given that the victim was sprayed in the face with gas, the descriptions we have of the two are limited.

“That said, I am hopeful someone out there will have information that will help us identify the person we are looking for and help us recover the outstanding cash.

“Were you in the area at the time and did you see the robbery take place or the offenders run off?

“Do you know someone who seems to have come into a large amount of cash or have you overheard someone discussing or bragging about this robbery? If so, please call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3521, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Malcolm James Edge, 47, of no fixed abode, has been charged with robbery and is currently remanded in prison. He is next due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on January 3, 2014.
