Our line manager has told us he'd like to keep us on and there is potentially three months work in our mail centre. Unfortunately we have to transfer to Angard if we want the work.

Prepare to get your ass handed to you... by money (£2 less an hour I think?) and management...

You can't just transfer to Angard. Our manager has put our names forward for potential future work but any new casual contract has to be through Angard not Royal Mail.

I got my payslip today and it's only showing 26 hours for this week when I worked 40. Same thing has happened to my friends who did the same hours. I'm excluding the hour breaks as well. Seven hours for Monday-Friday night and five hours for Sunday night (five hours were on Monday, two hours were on Sunday). We work 10pm-6am so anything from Sunday counts as the previous week.

Edit: worked it out. We'll get the pay later. Something to do with a cut-off point in when they pay you.

I've been working a a casual in Norwich on the weekend shift(Saturday,Sunday and Monday).On Saturday I along with many other casuals turned up for work only to be told that we weren't needed.None of us had received any phone calls or e-mails informing us that we shouldn't be at work. According to our manager we should get paid but when I e-mailed the Christmas Casual helpline they told me that we wouldn't be paid.

Any advice on what I should do if I'm not paid for this shift? Surely they have to contact us if they don't want us to come in?

Unfortunately they don't seem to think they do and if you don't work you don't get paid. Happened a few times to me since I been a casual - I have been unable to get any recompense for wasted time and travel costs.

Well that soon went out the window! I've been on the early shift, as posted above we were told towards the end of last week (ie w/e Sat 21st) that we'd be in all this week and next week. We were told to come in at 7am instead of 6 on Monday-it seemed fairly quiet that day but then on Christmas Eve there just seemed to be a mountain of DSA coming in and we were offered overtime to clear it. Went back in today and were told that we're now finishing tomorrow, (28th), however they want us in from 10am to 6pm. Was also asked for contact phone numbers for any future work they may have.

Last year, a few people got moved to the local distribution centre after Eurocentral finished. I was asked but turned it down.

I would have considered it this year, but it seems I'd need to apply properly for it - instead of just being referred, and it's a bit much for only casual hours.

Is anyone else sick of being asked in to work a night shift, but end up being sent home at 2am due to lack of work?
