Re: vote no!
It will be a yes vote by a very large majority. What will amaze me, as always are the people who do not vote.

Re: vote no!
Unlike many I'll read the agreement before I decide how to vote.
If I believe this agreement is bad - then I'll be in the minority who vote to reject rather than accept.

You won't make it to the gate before the mediators have you back at work.borders wrote:we cannot collectively strike, but unballoted IA can take place and this will happen :-
5.3 Special Mediation
Where despite the best endeavours of both Royal Mail and CWU, unballoted industrial action occurs, the Divisional Representative (or equivalent) and the Head of Industrial Relations will be immediately informed. They will work with the local representatives of both parties to identify the cause of the industrial action, resolve differences, return to work and if necessary engage in due process. Unless there is an expectation of a quick return to work they will arrange for Special Mediators to be appointed.
Read the agreement and remember it's all legally binding.

Re: vote no!
Lost faith in the CWU, fast losing faith in my colleagues who for the queens shilling are prepared to vote away our right to strike, that our forefathers strove to get for us. Thoroughly disillusioned and depressed.

Why is that sign needed? Anybody who had designs to sit on that particular fence in the first place would have to be spectacularly masochistic.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Indeedmicksurrey wrote:It will be a yes vote by a very large majority. What will amaze me, as always are the people who do not vote.

I'm fully expecting RM to renege(?)(query spelling), on the deal just as posties are about to cash in on their shares. Its written in the stars

Yes much better that RM maintains the agreement and goes bust than expects people to live in the real worldoscar wrote:Too many clauses.. like royal mail can forfeit the agreement If they steer into financial difficulties

Re: vote no!
We've all seen the "business is bust" scenario before from Leighton,Crozier and even the beloved Moya.Brain Fury wrote:Yes much better that RM maintains the agreement and goes bust than expects people to live in the real world
It is possible to shuffle things around to make one part of the business look financially unsustainable and the agreement does specifically cite any "part" of the business not the whole coupled with the fact that while the legal protections are in place tied to a no strike deal Royal Mail has a hold over us that no member realistically wants to see broken.
To be honest that's not my main concern,It's a possible scenario but unlikely and I'm much more concerned about any changes negotiated after the agreement is ratified by the membership, specifically how strong our bargaining position is now.
At the end of the day having these protections in place is a big carrot shaped stick and I fully expect RM to use it at every opportunity to "negotiate" cuts in our terms and conditions. The threat of removal of those protections will obviously be used to down-dial any "extravagant" pay claims and pour cold water on any thoughts of fighting performance and efficiency plans. As far as I can see the national officers are in for an uncomfortable few years of being kicked around the negotiating table and then having to basically spin defeat into something the membership will swallow.
The union has backed itself into a dangerous corner and it's completely at the mercy of the employer as to how much of a kicking it/we take. There will of course come a point where the terms and conditions have been weakened so much through "negotiation" that the protections become virtually worthless but how long that takes and how bad it gets first is up for debate.

Re: vote no!
My argument is not essentially that the agreement is bad, it is of course, but it's RMs job to press for as much productivity as cheaply as possible. My point of view is that the union has negotiated away many of the protections we have for pretty much 30 pieces of silver.Brain Fury wrote:Yes much better that RM maintains the agreement and goes bust than expects people to live in the real world
As for maintaining agreements well who would expect RM to stick to agreements when for almost 10 years they have flouted them without question. The union would do better to withdraw from the arena altogether and employ capable negotiators whose future depends on success because as it stands the present system of negotiating has no redress whatsoever except to withdraw financial support.

We can collectively vote and take national industrial action, there are consequences, such as RMs withdrawal from the agreement but that doesnt mean we cannot take national strike action if we believe its right.
