A long-running dispute between postal workers and Royal Mail managers in Weston-super-Mare has been resolved.

The industrial action, which threatened Christmas deliveries, had been called over allegations of bullying, harassment and overloaded deliveries.

Previous strikes had taken place in August and September.

The Communications Workers Union (CWU) said workers at the Warne Road depot had voted unanimously to accept fresh proposals earlier on Friday.

"[This is] a victory for common sense," a spokesman said.

It means the industrial action planned for 16 December has been called off.

Royal Mail has yet to comment but previously said any strike would damage its drive to build a "strong and sustainable future" for the company.

The depot in Weston-super-Mare covers the BS22, BS23 and BS24 postcode areas. More than 140 staff work there.
