New service makes online shopping more convenient

We are now operating one of the UK’s largest click and collect networks. Working in partnership with Post Office Ltd, we are able to support online shopping growth and consumer demand for convenient collection points by offering a greater choice of parcel delivery options.

We have developed our Local Collect service to make it easier for consumers to choose to have their on-line orders delivered directly to a Post Office.

10,500 Post Offices are able to accept parcels, with many having extended hours for parcel collection including evenings and weekends. Our customers will have access to one of the biggest retail networks in the UK at a time that suits them.

Delivery staff may be more familiar with the Local Collect service when customers request redelivery to a Post Office after we have already attempted delivery.

However, the Local Collect service can also be used by contract customers to directly address a parcel to a Post Office branch for the consumer to collect.

Consumers are not charged a fee for this service at the Post Office. They select an available Post Office through the retailer’s web site when they complete the purchase of their goods.

Where retailers integrate their parcel despatch systems with Royal Mail, the address label will contain the customer name, Post Office address for delivery and the words Local Collect to assist with identifying it.

When the service is used with Special Delivery Guaranteed and Royal Mail Tracked, customers are able to track progress of their parcel and can even receive text notification when it is delivered to the Post Office branch.

What does this mean for postmen and women?
•A Local Collect item addressed to a Post Office needs to be delivered using standard delivery processes. The Post Office simply becomes the delivery point for that parcel.
•It is important that the correct transaction is followed on the PDA for Special Delivery Guaranteed and Royal Mail Tracked, so that the delivery can be notified by SMS to the consumer. This alerts the consumer that the item is ready for pick up.
•For ease of identification, the words Local Collect will also appear on the address label. On delivery to the Post Office, the parcel should be scanned as delivered using the ‘Local Collect’ option on the PDA.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Meanwhile no one told Post Office Ltd.

They don't actually have a network of 10,500 PO's able to take in this kind of mail, and even if they did all have room for this click and collect stuff, the Sub Offices close at 5.30pm, just as the recipients of the mail are leaving work, so the PO's are closed by the time they get home.

So POL have come up with a whizz of an idea, any PO that isn't open in the evenings will be compulsory shut and the PO service will be transferred to a local shop that is open in the evening.

Brill so you get to pick up your internet purchased item at a time and location that suits you. But don't expect a normal Post Office service from these shops should you then try and send a packet, or want to get some foreign currency, or ask about prices and sizes of Royal Mail services, cos the PO as you know it........ will have gone.
