STRANDED mail is finally being delivered to homes across Nuneaton and Bedworth almost two weeks late.

The announcement from Royal Mail is news that will be rejoiced by the masses who have been waiting on information about what was going to happen to their much-needed mail ever since Nuneaton's sorting office was forced to close.

Mail that was due to be delivered on Friday, November 29 ended up being left stranded as bosses were forced to close the Church Street-based sorting office over asbestos fears after November 29 due to concerns over an asbestos outbreak,

The mail remained in the condemned office until the end of last week when workmen were spotted going into the site.

It was all removed by Monday and a spokesperson for Royal Mail said that they hoped to start delivering the post today.

"We've started delivery of the parcels which were stranded at Nuneaton delivery office," the spokesperson said.

"We would like to reiterate our apology to customers for the delay and we aim to complete these deliveries as soon as we can."

While the 'stranded' mail can now be delivered, it is still unclear when the actual sorting office, including the public collection point, will re-open.

This means that anyone who misses a delivery may have to travel to the temporary collection point in Ibstock Road, Coventry, if they cannot get it redirected.

Investigations are still on-going into the possibility of providing a more local collection point.
