New agreement vote

What everyone need to do is think what would happens if there is a no vote.

Royal Mail won't make it easier for workload for us. The shareholders will demand savings so Royal Mail will need cull of managers and this will reduce b & h eventually. I think a yes vote for me, but I will need to read the agreement in depth to make final decision.

RM only adhere to agreements when it suits them, DOMs nationwide must be laughing their bollox & tits off.... that normal service will continue...

I'll vote no purely on the basis that it contains a threat that the legal protections will be removed in the event of national industrial action.
I'm aware that it is a futile gesture but my conscience won't allow me to concede to a threat like that.
If the company's intentions are truly altruistic why would it need to tie the hands of its negotiating "partner" like that?
Why would they even be worried about national industrial action?

This point of view makes total sense to me. Why include this if the company truely want to improve industrial relations? I smell a big rat.

surely rm will be having nightmares if we voted no and called strikes..it would put a big dent in those fancy share prices and if a few hundred greedy people out in the middle east lose a few hundred million then so what..tough

Conversely, if the CWU really wants to work in partnership with RM why does it want recourse to strike action? Is it because what you are really saying is that we'll work with RM perhaps even go to mediation unless we don't get our way and then we'll go on strike.

I'm voting No, too. Even if you believe that the company has turned over a new leaf (...then Daddy said, for the fifteenth time, no more drinking for me, I'm back on the wagon for good. Yee-Hah!....), I can't see this new IR structure working.

I mean, everyone but everyone is going to want an external mediator. Every mail centre, every DO, everybody. For every resign, for every local agreement, for anything you could name. How is that going to go? You're either going to get a huge logjam or you're going to have the CWU playing the heavy, cutting off the process, hand in hand with management.

The threat of the removal of legal protections if we take strike action will effectively render us a no strike union. Similarly when the shareholders deem a section not sustainable because of low profits our members will have no legal protection. Pay is ok but that has never been the main issue. There is also a shift in power away from local to divisional level of the union. I've put up the whole agreement for members so that in 3-6 months they cant attack me and the other reps for not informing them of the whole agreement. It's a no vote from me

And this is the reason that a no vote practically does not exist.

Whatever is said on here aint going to mean diddly squat when the votes are in - accept it everyone, this is a done deal.

A shame it was the last ever one done by the CWU and it's what there legacy will leave us with. Everyone I work with don't care about the strike sign away or lack of full agreement. All they are smiling over and rubbing hands on is the xmas bonus and backpay - you can see the dollar signs in their eyes...
