Re: New agreement vote
A lot like a previous poster I don't really post a lot as I also do not have much to say.
I'm very fortunate that I work in one of the very few (it seems) offices that have fair management in place. Yes I do a 3-4hr delivery but still manage to finish before my time without coming in early. At the same time I have nothing against people coming in early. More fool them for not claiming the overtime. Those that do have a problem in my eyes should step up and do something about it instead of moaning about their rep.
I personally find the deal to be fair. How any other companies can you name where you are 100% safe in your job?
We are being offered a payrise over the next 3 years and getting a lump sum as well as securing our terms for upto 5 years.
I can understand the cynical nature after 2010 but what benefit is it to Royal Mail or the CWU to fail as a company?
After working for myself for a few years I know it's tough out there and knowing I have these assurances is all I need personally to put in a yes vote.

Re: New agreement vote
yeah but is there really nothing at stake but a shady agreement? I fully expect Royal Mail to be planning to break up the company and out source and its not this agreement that's slowing it down- this agreement to me just happily coincides with their schedule for evaluation and preparation for major change and they would rather the union helped things along during this process.fishtank wrote:

Who in their right mind is going to vote for national industrial action with all that at stake?
f**k...even I would vote no.

Re: New agreement vote
I cannot believe the PEC are recommending acceptance of an agreement which surrenders their ultimate bargaining chip and leaves OPGs so vulnerable ... but I can read from the posts here and on FB that the membership has no real stomach to resist and I can understand their feelings after these protracted negotiations. Whilst some are eager to reap the financial benefits of the deal others are resigned accepting it as they cannot see any alternative. Only time will tell ... so lets see !!

Re: New agreement vote
Its likely to get voted in but as the vote on BT2010 highlighted, a surprisingly large percentage don't bother voting so its not impossible for a no vote to be achieved if there was such a thing as an objective open debate in The CWU.Budfrog wrote:I cannot believe the PEC are recommending acceptance of an agreement which surrenders their ultimate bargaining chip and leaves OPGs so vulnerable ... but I can read from the posts here and on FB that the membership has no real stomach to resist and I can understand their feelings after these protracted negotiations. Re: New agreement vote
Let's face it, not many posties come on here do they. Most of the staff out there will see the £ signs and the Union approval and vote to accept... end of.
We're in a no win situation now anyways, if we vote no, are we really gonna trust the union that's just agreed this to go back and get it right.. not gonna happen.
We'll have to take the money and do it all again in 5 years if the deal lasts that long.
As for the deliveries, well there's a start time and a finish time, makes no odds if they are too big does it. Some people have to start to grow some bollox, do the job as it should be done, stop dashing about and taking it up the arse.

Re: New agreement vote
Have you read the document?
ACAS involvement, joint visits to offices, tools to be used to identify workload capabilities, imput from YOU,
Your chance to tell them once and for all that the present toolset does not work and the new tools need your imput to get it right.
Or are we just to pour scorn over this document not give it a chance and walk on the street to just exactly what?

Re: New agreement vote
Why?
Did I have to wait month upon month, extension after extension, for this?
A no strike deal that, if all being good might, just might, if all the focus groups etc. deem fit, and if Royal Mail feel there is enough profit in it. give us some slight protection in maybe June 2014, if we're lucky.
Dave Ward and Bob Gibson have kept us in the dark for months, and the only real protections I can see are for full-time release reps.
"To establish enhanced roles and responsibilities for CWU Divisional and Territorial Representatives/Regional Organisers and the appropriate Royal Mail Managers to manage our industrial relations processes effectively by March 2014"
"2.8 The CWU will continue to be the recognised trade union for the purposes of collective bargaining and individual representation in respect of the Employees for whom it currently holds bargaining rights. The terms of the Industrial Relations Framework regarding CWU representational structures, release, conferences and national briefings will remain in place unless renegotiated. "
What was wrong with trying to attain what was asked for by the members of this union. If that was unachievable then strike action should have been called.
We never voted for more protection for the Union ELITE. We had a Strike mandate to ensure members wouldn't go through the current B&H. to protect terms and conditions as they currently are, not as Royal Mail think they should be. For a fair workload, and hopefully a bit of a pay rise.
Throw a few quid at the cannon fodder and we'll be safe, in our full time release. seems to be the message from this PROPOSED agreement.
Pathetic.

Re: New agreement vote
Maybe we would have got a better deal had the CWU acted in May or June than October and hit them with strikes before privatisation?

Re: New agreement vote
If there is a no vote now then customers will be lost and RM will rightly or wrongly use that as fact and this current deal on the table will be gone. They are not going to come back with the same pay on offer and they are not going to come back with the same terms and conditions. If we had striked last month and lost business then the same would have applied IMO and it would have turned ugly. I think the CWU negotiators could have done better from the bits I've digested so far, but without a union there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that things would have been a whole lot worse.

Re: New agreement vote
There's the cash sweetner, CWU recommendation and likely 10 tons of propaganda from Royal Mail in member's faces every day. The YES vote will win.
Most won't see it, but this agreement won't survive the original 3 years, let alone 5. Royal Mail will rip it up when it suits them.

Tis true mate, could've possible scuppered the whole thing by crashing the share price... we'll never know now.
Union was slow to static, missed the boat, changed tack and have been rowing back ever since... they've been utter bollix for a fair few years now..
