Hey, Dingo the the short inquiry into the Governments proposals to Privatise Royal Mail will be a one-off evidence session on Tuesday 10 September next with Vincent Cable, does Billy & Dave know ???dingo wrote:Fish the September 2nd meeting concides with the House of Commons debate on Royal Mail sell off and announcement of a ballot at a union meeting 150 metres from the House Of Commons will capture a lot of media attention.
It's is not too late according to a leaker Royal Mail document the prespectous will not be due out till mid to late September at the earliest!
This dispute is about so much more then pensions , outsourcing , franchising , two tier workforce , acceptance of new terms and total flexibility under the agenda for growth , plus pay and a wide range of other issues.

LTB 619/13 National Industrial Action Ballot (Royal Mail Group including Parcelforce)
No. 619/13
Ref: 21003
Date: 17th September 2013
To: All Branches with Postal Members
Dear Colleague
National Industrial Action Ballot (Royal Mail Group including Parcelforce)
At last weeks National Briefing we indicated that there may be some slippage on the Industrial Action timetable. We can now advise that a new timetable has been agreed as follows:
- Notice served on the 20th September 2013
- Ballot opens on the 27th September 2013
- Ballot closes Wednesday 16th October 2013
It is essential that every single CWU Representative now plays a full part in maximising the yes vote in the coming weeks.
Any enquiries on the above LTB should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward

Re: PEC today agree timetable for a national strike ballot.
Key Messages for our members:
1. This is a defining moment for the future of the Postal Industry, Royal Mail and your job.
2. CWU want an Agreement. The Agreement must set a legal precedent to protect your interests for the long term foreseeable future.
3. Privatisation is fundamentally wrong and the CWU will continue to oppose it any way we can. Postal workers have turned the fortunes of this company around and we cannot give the vested interests who want to sell off Royal Mail a free hand to determine your future and the future of UK Postal Services.
4. The legally binding Agreement we want will be groundbreaking in terms of UK employment. It will mean – regardless of ownership and unfair competition – you will have greater protection for your job security, terms and conditions than any other group of UK workers. This is worth fighting for.
5. You have already seen the Consultative Ballot result – your collective strength – successfully and significantly shift Royal Mail’s position on pay and pensions. Next week we will hold a ballot for Industrial Action to further strengthen our claim. Your support is crucial and the ballot will be used to achieve clear and specific objectives. These are:
• Long term legally binding protections covering all aspects of your job security, terms, conditions and contract of employment. We will not accept a 3 year deal. We want an on going legally binding commitment that will act as a charter for the principles and values that the company will always abide by. Please see the enclosed leaflet for details of the legally binding protections we want. Long term legal protections are worth fighting for.
• An above inflation 3 year guaranteed pay and bonus/profit share deal (replacement for ColleagueShare) that is also legally binding and separate from any pension settlement. Your pay and reward is worth fighting for.
• A pension settlement that fully protects the Defined Benefit Scheme and significantly improves the Defined Contribution Scheme. This must have legally binding guarantees – not get out clauses for a private Royal Mail to make a further attack on your pension. Putting your pension before privatisation is worth fighting for.
• A new consensus on what constitutes a fair day’s work for a fair days pay. We must bring to an end the aggressive managerial culture of relentless budgets cuts, chaotic lapsing and absorption and unacceptable pressure over daily workload. Your workplace issues are worth fighting for.
• A strategy for growth rather than managed decline. We need an Agreement to deal with parcel/packet growth and variable workload. We need investment in the existing workforce and a secure future for Mail Centres, Distribution Centres and the Logistics Network. A strategy for growth is worth fighting for.
6. You know this is a defining moment. Keeping the terms and conditions in Royal Mail as the benchmark for the Postal Industry is worth fighting for. The alternative is the race to the bottom where your terms and conditions will be no different to the workers at TNT.

I wouldn't argue that this is a defining moment but many of these issues have been long outstanding and ignored and why is there a "slippage" have RM not been timely with the membership figures

Talk about outmaneuvered;
CWU ballot closes 16th October
Royal Mail floats 8th October
Trading in new company starts 11th October (Government now only has minority shareholding and hands under the tap washing them of Royal Mail)
RM board meeting and to quote Montgomery Burns "Release the hounds"
Good luck to all, we are going to need it !!!

Makes you wonder where the weeks slippage came from in that case and put the vote and strike back by a week - still never mind I think it was on the cards - what chance a new agreement that just tips the scale for an interim settlement.
Very clever manoeuvring by Royal Mail though. Announced on the day the ballot was supposed to start which by the way hasn't because there's been no ballot papers received in our office. Many people seeing the announcement may well think it is pointless voting Yes if they bother to vote at all.

It is now 7 Decdvbuk55 wrote:It's the 22nd of August so to wait until 2nd September isn't an unconscionable time particularly as I think that could well be time spent galvanising a yes vote and a very large proportion of returned ballots. One of the things that is worrying is the thought of many members not returning the ballot paper, either way, YES or NO.
Personally I'll be voting YES and will stand on the picket line as I have always done.
Don't let us down CWU - this time it really is sh*t or bust.

Re: PEC today agree timetable for a national strike ballot.
whats the PEC ?dingo wrote:The PEC today agreed a provisional timetable for a national strike action ballot. This will be formally announced at the national briefing on the 2nd September at central hall.
All members will now have the opportunity to either vote yes and fight for your future terms , pensions , pay and ways of working. Or vote no and accept what the government and Royal Mail and any shareholders want to do to you.
Its up to you !
