This is from today's Guardian - http://business.guardian.co.uk/story/0,,2186924,00.html
These 3 paragraphs are particularly interesting:

Analysts said the strikes would severely damage Royal Mail after it had appeared to be over the worst of its deep-seated problems.

"Royal Mail has been moved from a position of being reasonably profitable, now to a position of being zero profitable," Ian Senior, an economist, told Reuters. "And I suspect after this strike it will be a loss-maker."

He said that ever since postal regulator Postcomm was established, it had attempted to "interfere, micro-manage" the postal service, holding prices down well below rates charged by competitors in Europe.

Yes I blame POSTCOM for most of this, interfering busy bodies who are trying to wind us up by opening up competition but not allowing us to undercut, HOW FAIR IS THAT?

Postcomm is more to blame than anyone, more so than even Leighton and Crozier. Its madness the situation RM finds itself in, having to deliver competitors mail at a loss and as the article says having one of the lowest postage rates in Europe.
I really think Crozier and Leightons beef should be with Postcomm not fighting this war theyre never going to win with their own staff.
