COUNCILLORS are calling on Royal Mail to overturn proposals to close its Portsmouth processing centre.
Cllrs Jason Fazackarley and Leo Madden will put forward a notice of motion at a meeting of the full city council on Tuesday, December 10 that urges the company’s bosses to rethink their plans.
There is concern that, should the closure become a reality, then there will be deterioration of services in the city, as well as job losses.
The councillors will call on the council to write a letter to Moya Greene, Royal Mail’s chief executive, which asks her to keep the centre.
The meeting, which starts at 2pm, will be held at Portsmouth Guildhall.
As previously reported, the move would mean mail sorting would cease in Portsmouth from the summer of 2015, and the operation could move to Eastleigh instead.

They got as much chance of saving the Dockyard than the closure of Portsmouth MC

Councillors always talk a lot of hot air as long its other people's money, they are pretty good at cutting their own services and bin collections.

The mail centre will close........like all the others , how many have the CWU saved ? Politicians local and national fire off their letters to Moya and go through the motions for their constituents , though it is only for their own benefit when a lot of them are related to the party that is in cahoots with Moya and her gang of bandits.
