Royal Mail to shut pension scheme

"We will support it [the pension changes], rather than fight it," said Paul Reuter, national officer for the trade union Unite which represents Royal Mail managerial staff.

"It is the right thing to do given the state of the business. There will still be a link with earnings in the future," he said.

Unite had threatened to ballot its 12,000 Royal Mail members for strike action unless a satisfactory deal was struck, particularly over the pensions issue.

The rot goes straight to the top, here's the view of the tossers who head Unite on Gordon Brown at Labour Party conference - the one where he cut the right of unions to have any say in policy. Wonder if Brown's comments on our strike telling us to get back to work represent the core concerns of working class people. Tossers.

The leaders of Unite - the union, the UK's largest trade union and the largest union affiliate to the Labour Party, welcomed Gordon Brown's first speech as leader of the Labour party to party conference in Bournemouth this afternoon.

Tony Woodley, joint general secretary of Unite, said: "Gordon Brown's decency and integrity shines through. It demonstrated he is in touch with ordinary working men and women, recognising their core concerns on education, housing and the NHS. It is the most Labour speech we have heard for a decade."

Derek Simpson, joint general secretary of Unite, said: "It was a captain's innings - safe, solid run making but no sixes. He's Geoffrey Boycott, batting for Britain.

"He covered all the things important to our members - the NHS, education, crime and affordable housing but there were no fireworks and if he wants to call an early election he has to light the blue touch paper."

Conference speeches

Post by mailjock »

Well, I suppose one could almost put up with the fawning speeches cos there was possibly a General Election in the offing at the time.

But looking at all the concerns about working people - I don't see any mention about work and having a job - something seems to be a bit wrong there.

Its so simple 1. ethier UNITE expel the CMA strike breakers or we move the UNITE are removed from TUC 2. its now clear as day that Brown and co support the managment against the workers so we now must stop all fundding to the labour party and at confrence we shall disafilliate.
Forward to a new workers party

The TUC is only a talking shop and doesn't represent the rank and file trade unionist, but they should boot the scab CMA out, and never mind Ramsay McBrown and his gang.
The Industrial Workers of the World. The union whose members never scab!
