Re: Suspended for swearing at the DOM
The best course of action is usually to cite domestic issues/stress especially if it's a one off and out of character.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Suspended for swearing at the DOM
It used to be a sack able offence to swear at a manager. Some seem to survive ok now. It's a dangerous game to play.arty_morty wrote:Last Tuesday our DOM turned up for work in a Porsche Carrera 4, not a new one to be fair but still not a cheap car. Anyway, during the WTL meeting he announced that SA was being lapsed and he's been getting Saturday staff in to cover it. This was too much for one 25+ year veteran who had his say and ended by calling the DOM a f****** idiot. OK, that was wrong, something acknowledged by the bloke in question.
When we went back to the floor the postman was called in and after a brief meeting he was suspended. Bizarrely he was then sent to another office to do a delivery and was asked to do the same the following day (yet another office), which he refused, instead going sick. He's now on pre-arranged leave and according to those closer to him than me thinks from what management have told him that he'll be out the door soon.
It seems a bit OTT for the DOM considering the way others talk to him including one that continually talks back and refuses to do what's asked - i.e. to go on the sorting, preferring instead to wander the office with a clip board claiming he's doing the aggregates.
So has this bloke got a real problem or is this being taken too far by a vindictive DOM?

Maybe but that's the way things are unfortunately. I'm glad your office appears to have no issues and that everything is in the open.hantsman wrote:arty_morty wrote:The fact that day he announced that there was no more overtime was the day he first turned up in it. Alot of assumptions to be honest.
I staged a Roger Moore impersonator festival in my local village. There were a lot of eyebrows raised, I can tell you.

Re: Suspended for swearing at the DOM
Unfortunately it depends entirely on the individual concerned. One of the workers in our office told our Lino to 'f@ck off' when he told him to go and clean his van after getting back early on a Saturday but nothing happened, yet I received a dressing down for using the word sh1t in a descriptive sense eg 'that's a load of sh1t guv'
It should be a universal rule, but like most disciplinary matters in RM, it depends on if your face fits (and which way the wind is blowing)

Trouble is for this bloke is that if there's something to say chances are he'll say it. And tact is a secondary concern. I'm not certain having been around for only 4 years but do these veterans get a feeling of invincibility?

Re: Suspended for swearing at the DOM
i asked the lino if the arsehole was in today (meaning the dom), the dsm was in the office at the time and heard it, but he didnt know who it was. he asked the lino who had said it and wanted them sent home. lino said he didnt know who it was that said it. so i owe him one, but it goes to show which way they are managing things these days. as it happens our new dom is known to us and used to be the lino so its just taken as banter. but this dsm doesnt see it that way. AND, he,s an ex union rep. the power must drive them insane. ''adolf'' springs to mind.

Excuse me mate but l, m no w****r. Did 23 years until I decided enough was enough and the job was, nt worth a light anymore. I was just trying to lighten up things in the present circumstances. I always wanted a Porsche and would have bought it even if l had stayed at Royal Mail

Read the post it says "When they ask you to lapse and don't think there is a problem" I don't think you made anyone lapse to pay for your Porsche and if you did not you bloody worked for it so well done!dean07 wrote:Excuse me mate but l, m no w****r.
