Yes but you do start to wonder why we would even bother if it's only a token gesture,A strike ballot is only really valid for 12 weeks anyway so basically at best you would be extending it through december.

Would HQ call the members out in december?
You never know but personally I would doubt it even in normal circumstances never mind risking a deal that's supposedly "groundbreaking",a deal that the union has been touting as something really special including legal protections,A deal that financially the members would probably bite your hands off for...over a token gesture...not buying it.

There were several more sensible options open to the union earlier on in the dispute,perhaps separating the delivery issues and getting the rest of the deal "in the bag" or setting a genuine cut off point and taking action or even in some minds(not mine) cancelling the IA altogether and concentrating on resolving the issues but to me they choose the worst option,trying to keep up the pretence to the members that they were hardballing and IA was a real option while prevaricating and extending the deadlines.
It just looked weak and dishonest in the end..

If we need to take action to validate the ballot then let's take some real action and focus RMs mind on the game,If HQ isn't up for that then just cancel the whole bloody thing and get on with dotting the T's and crossing your fingers.

I wonder if the union realise how close to the edge people are? I am shocked myself at the feeling abroad in the office to pull out of the union en masse even to the point that the sub rep is seriously considering taking a vote on it. I wouldn't dissuade him because I feel the union need a sharp shock and the only way to do that is to hit them where it hurts. It would certainly bring the Branch from under the rock it hides under just like it did last time. Some pulled out after BT2010 and never went back.

The problem is we all need some backup, which we would of course lose by resigning from the union. Currently, when I cut-off I make sure to tell my rep too, so as to cover my own ass. It will be a lonely road if we go it alone, especially if workloads are increased even more.

I disagree entirely with how the union has conducted itself during this comedy of errors negotiations, but pulling out would just spite myself.

Mine too and I think it's the first option.
There is still this macho culture within branches and nobody wants to admit that they might be failing to protect their members or in any way weak.
Disagreements and grievances are buried.
There is also a lot of territorial pissing going on.
More female reps might help.
