I've never known a major change agreement not to go to a membership ballot.

An agreement to shape post-privatisation Royal Mail, an agreement covering 5 years of terms and conditions? This is about as big an agreement as has ever been negotiated. Ever. So you bet your ass it had better be put to a vote. Or the CWU can kiss goodbye to a lot of members. We cannot on the one hand cry 'unfair' when RM take executive action, and impose something on the workforce, and then sit by without a squeak, if the CWU try to impose something on us without any vote !!!

Of course there'll be a vote how else could they throw the blame on the membership like BT2010 when it goes tits up. As a matter of interest does anyone know how that expression came to be because I do not see the connection.

Surely it has taken so long so don't you think they should not announce anything till late tomorrow as it must be very complex and surely the legal team representing would want time to make sure of any mis interpretation on the agreement?

Thanks for the update Dingo, by this you mean the negotiators have struck a deal they are happy with but it then has to be put to the PEC before we can then vote on it as members?

The PEC will meet at 3 in an hotel in Barbican and the noise is that there is still no negotiators agreement. Big decision to come.

So if the PEC have to make a decision regarding strike action also by close of play today when will they be reading this hugely complex agreement,fully digesting it and coming to a reasoned decision as to whether it's good enough to put to the membership?

Fish a negotiators agreement does not mean the full agreement. The PEC will then meet once the full agreement has been resolved. Now as posted in the last hour there is no agreement as expected so an interesting couple of hours ahead.

So we're looking at some kind of action to keep the ballot valid and...another extension?
