A man who tried to send illegal drugs through the post has been ordered to hand over his last remaining assets.

Paul Pinner’s plans were scuppered in May last year when a member of staff at Red Lodge post office noticed the smell of cannabis coming from a parcel.

Police were alerted and found the package contained not only cannabis but also a quantity of amphetamines.

In July Pinner, 42, of Ash Court, Red Lodge, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court where he was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid community work after pleading guilty to two offences of attempting to supply a controlled drug and one of possession of cannabis.

On Friday, Pinner returned to the same court for a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing designed to recoup as much as possible of what he gained from his offending.

The court heard that specialist financial investigators had established that Pinner’s benefit from offending amounted to £10,000 but his available assets were worth just £1,500.

Mr Recorder Peter Wallis ordered Pinner to hand over his remaining £1,500 within the next three months or face 30 days imprisonment for not meeting that deadline.

When Pinner, a father of four, was sentenced in July, the court was told that he regularly sent legitimate parcels through Red Lodge post office and the attempt to send drugs had been an isolated incident and
involved only a “modest” amount, said Rory Keene, defending.
