MDEC Doxford (Sunderland) Pay not as advertised

Post by hugh gains »

Applied online, completed the tests and was invited to an interview. The interview wasnt an interview, you already had the job if you provided the relevant paperwork, id, passport etc.

Anyway, theres about 30 of us and we sit down and the Angard rep delivers his presentation, which covered what we would be doing, what is expected, the dress code, the hours and ultimately the pay. He explicitly stated (and the paper handouts we were given also confirmed) that we would earn £6 and change an hour between the hours of 6pm and 10pm, then at 10pm through till 6am, we would be earning £8 and change an hour. On this basis I signed up, as having just graduated I thought the money would come in handy for christmas.

Started on Wednesday and have came to the realisation that the pay is not as advertised. Heard a few people stating that it was simply minimum wage throughout the shift. So I queried it with one of the RM exployees who contacted an Angard rep, who confirmed that at the 10pm threshold the pay would increase by 20p an hour and not rise to the aforementioned £8 and change. I told the RM guy that the Angard recruiter/interviewer had stated better pay and the RM guy simply said 'Angard say a lot of things'.

What do i do here? Im not the only one who has realised this, as 2/3 others remember being given the same presentation and I cant help but feel deceived. The job is mind numbing and is devoiding me of my humanity and the £8 an hour was the only thing keeping me going. I dont exactly have the strength of character to stage a walkout or anything and I dont want to be the only one to say something/cause a scene and be potentially let go. Do I have a grievance here, or do I have to like it or lump it and ultimately accept it?

Do you actually have any proof on writing that it was £8/hour+?

No, the handouts given out during the interview confirmed what the representative of Angard was telling us, but we werent allowed to take a copy home with us. Secondly, numerous others were given the same talk, on different occasions and agree with me. Thirdly, the offhand comment by the RM employee who stated 'Angard say a lot of things' worries me.

I probably dont have a leg to stand on as I dont have anything in writing, I'm just infuriated beyond belief that I've been lied to or recruited by an incompetent individual, both are just as bad as one another.

Moved to Angard forum, you may get extra help there.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Welcome to Angard. In my experience, you should be grateful that you're being paid at all.
