angard in the xmas period

i dont know if its angard or R.M at this time of year, but since joining the union ,i find that work is non exsistant . only 1 5hour shift in the last 12 days are there any other angard staff finding themselves in the same position. if so is it something the union should be looking at ? any thoughts in this matter ?

I dont know how Angard would know if you are in the Union, (unless you were especially "active") and Angard choose who is sent to work, not RM managers. If there were any favours given to certain casuals by Angard it would almost certainly be on grounds of costs ie. favouring those on pre AWR wages.

At Christmas RM managers might favour RM seasonal casuals over long-term Angardees, also on cost grounds, this maybe what's happening to Angardees at your workplace, but I doubt you are being targeted individually.

Our MC goes through "budget cutting" phases which usually backfire when they have loads of work and it's too late to call in casuals or book regulars on O/T

You've probably been laid off to make way for the new Christmas casuals. It happened last year, looks like it'll be the same this year.

The Christmas casuals are cheaper to pay - not necessarily as efficient and not necessarily a cost benefit but they have never worry about that. We often lose hours around Christmas.

Also, we seem to lose hours every 4 months or so where we go down to a similar number of hours over the 12 days - appears to coincide with new casuals, that are not AWR qualified, being taken on. Not many seem to stay so new ones are recruited every few months

Sounded like the start of a mass lay off, be interesting to see if they let them back in next week (like they said they would)

Exactly the same happened last year. Went in on the Monday got laid off the Tuesday and replaced by RM casuals. This year they didn't even offer us last week - at least they learnt something for this year at ours.

Been working with the agency since 2011, been on AWR pay for about 16 months of that with shifts varying between 5hr/day and 12, full time. Been laid off a couple of times on the 12th week. Last time that happened was the end of October. Now I'm chasing Angard around trying to get on a shift after they've started. No emails or anything. They say that they haven't been able to get in touch. It's a joke. The kicker is that Angard have always told us that we get priority and that their loyalty to us is very important considering we've helped pull them out of the you know what plenty of times.

The thing is tho that knowing how inept Angard are it's hard to say whether this is intentional or just another mess
