CSS/Mech training question

I have a question from a member of staff who was trained on the CSS 2 years ago, but has not been on it since. He is now required to go on it over xmas.
He has made it clear that he does not want to go on it for this reason, but the manager has only offered a coach to assist him if need be.
My question is there not a ruling that if you have not worked on any machine over a set period then retraining would have to be given, not just a refresher or coach?

I don't believe there are any hard and fast rules on this issue. Having been trained myself on a CSS I would expect some support after a 2 year break but as the original training and verification procedure were quite thorough I would not require the whole training course to be able to confidently run the kit in a safe and effective manner after some re-familiarisation.

The automation team for your area should be able to give you a definitive answer.

The guy in question was paired up with one of the best operators in the office last night and is now successfully managing to double batch. The manager has promised that he will receive the same support tonight and the guy genuinely seems happy to be there now. Turned out that all he was scared of was the double batching aspect of the operation and when the manager assured him that he would not be all over him for his performance with regards to OEE etc and that he would be on the same machine with same partner over the pressure, I actually heard him thanking our manager for the support he had received.
One of the better managers i have to add!!

Good result, I can understand the trepidation after a spell away from the machines and it's good to see that the guy received the appropriate level of support.

??? It's a 3 day course the training course for the CSS, did they seriously train up casuals on a 3 day course who in three weeks time will never operate them again? Did they not give normal staff at your office the chance to work on the CSS for xmas pressure?

I doubt they had the full three days. As for staff, nope, not asked at all.

I doubt they had the full three days. As for staff, nope, not asked at all.

Maybe it's to speed up clear-downs so the next batch can be run sooner, with the casual clearing down the machine whilst the regular person does the stoppage screen and then loads the next batch on the screen, then loads the machine whilst the casual clears down the machine. Only way I can think of them doing it if the casuals aren't doing the full 3 day course

They probably used the 'bare bones' one day course which covers the essential H&S aspects and allows an operator to run a machine during the Christmas pressure period.

Or management think we are going on strike and they want cover
