I have heard that during a conference call to management on wednesday Moya talked about getting the money into people's pockets before Christmas.
Whether that means some kind of compromise payment or whether back pay is included I have no idea but first of all we need an acceptable agreement.

Or maybe she'll take a leaf out of Alan leightons book and bypass the cwu and impose a pay rise

It is one thing imposing a pay deal on its own but it is whole other thing when it's part of a much wider deal.

Remember the pay deal was linked to a range of issues including industrial stability and the agenda fro growth , pension etc they cannot impose all of that especially as under the industrial stability part of any deal they give a guarantee that they will not impose anything by executive action.

Look the talks have still not reached a conclusion and are expected to continue this weekend.

As I said yesterday on another thread that the £300 payment is now £200 as the remaining £100 will be consolidated into basic pay. My understanding is that the £200 on top of the current £200 Xmas bonus is what will be paid prior to Xmas if there is a deal.

With regards to the back pay i don't think that will be paid until the outcome of any ballot of the membership.

Either way, things seem even more confusing than before, with no deadline for resolution. Absolutely no pressure on Royal Mail to reach agreement, so they can string out the process as long as they like.

Union leaders/negotiators - you are an embarrassment.

My deductions:

It appears that the Agreement is almost complete - save for dotting the i(s) and t(s).

The Pension is no longer part of this particular agreement/deal
The Pay has now been increased by 0.5% for the next 3 years (2 years 4 months odd). In essence a FT postie on estimated £20,000 per annum will receive an extra £100 on top of the original 2.6% increase (3.1% in year 1). It will only be about £100 basic but with overtime and Scheduled attendance the extra gained will be more - good for part-timers that do OT.

- The lump sum that was part of the earlier deal is now £200 in year 1 - that could possibly be the back pay.
* There is more on the lump sum - dingo said the lump sum was not actually for accepting the deal and not going on Strike before Xmas but something to do with colleague share??? That was not the way some of us read into the propaganda from RM...

Workload issues will not be fully resolved and possibly will not even be touched as according to dingo there was enough in the BT2010 to help protect members from bullying and harassment that has ensued from that particular agreement... I think the CWU might be conducting a comprehensive survey of members and/or units to get to the bottom of the bullying and harassment because RM is in denial - apparently

Also, there will be a taskforce looking into the strategy for packets growth and possibly looking at the impact of the growth on workers. CWU will be more involved in that decision making - in a way they will be there to look after our interest in terms of expanding workload or new ways of working.

Lastly, I think the issue of Guarantee of Terms of Contract has been widely publicised - it has now increased to 5 years with a further review before the time is up. Basically, according to the CWU, RM cannot simply change all our contracts and outsource and many industrial/business jickory-pockory after the 5 years is up. This is supposed to be enshrined in law. That is great effort from the CWU but who knows what the future will be - it might just be what they call an understanding and/or aspiration more from the CWU than RM.

They could have done far better with informing the members and could have gone for a longer extension knowing that the deal was not that close on Nov 4. And they could simply have put members mind at rest as regards the threat of strike before Xmas - that threat was well and truly gone even before the 4th of November. (A few of us here predicted that there will be no strikes anyway).

I hear word now that a further extension has been agreed to the 10th December. You really couldn't make it up. The union negotiators continue to play straight into the hands of Royal Mail, and it's 'get through Christmas pressure at any cost' policy. Are they really that naive?
