POST office bosses are appealing to people not to try and collect parcels due to the asbestos outbreak at Nuneaton’s sorting office.
As revealed by the News, the sorting office in Church Street has been forced to close following an accident involving a tail lift lorry, which smashed through the roof in the internal parking pay, revealing the dangerous dust.
Royal Mail has apologised to customers and asked that people do not try to collect parcels.
A statement added: "Clearly this incident is something which we are treating with utmost urgency and our priority is the health and safety of our colleagues and all our customers."
The delivery office is temporarily relocating to the former Parcelforce depot at Ibstock Road in Coventry.
It is unclear how long the sorting office will be closed, but it could not have come at a worse time as Royal Mail prepares for the traditionally busy festive delivery and collection period.

Asbestos scare closes part of Northampton Royal Mail centre

A section of Royal Mail’s postal centre in Northampton has been closed following an asbestos scare.
The transport office at the South Midlands Mail Centre in Swan Valley has been closed amid fears a postal lorry may have unwittingly transported asbestos into the site from Nuneaton.
Royal Mail spokesman, Jennifer Bird, told the Chron the lorry had hit a wall in Nuneaton, causing asbestos to fall onto its roof, before it was driven to Northampton, 40 miles away.
She said; “The Nuneaton Delivery Office is currently closed, following an incident yesterday afternoon during which a vehicle reversing into the loading area damaged a small section of the ceiling.
“The ceiling contains an asbestos coating which may have been disturbed as a result of the incident.
“We believe the vehicle involved carried a small piece of debris back to the South Midlands Mail Centre. The transport office area has been totally isolated and the necessary testing will take place.”
Royal Mail has said the incident will have no impact on its operations from the centre.
