Thanks for the reply, this will seem a dumb question but will I be employed by Angard as none of the process so far has given any indication that an agency has been involved. I thought I was dealing with Royal mail  .

I presume you applied for the job of Xmas casual

Xmas casuals are directly handled by RM while year round casuals are employed by Angard, a company owned by RM.

If you wanted to stay on as a casual next year ( ie. after the Xmas employment period) you would be transferred to Angard, though it's a zeo hour contract with no guarantee of work

Thanks for that reply now I understand, status on application has changed again today now it says "security checks passed" so I think it must be ok.

I had transfer processed on my status, rang the helpline, they didn't know what it meant but thought it was an alternative way of saying security checks were being carried out, the following day I went to security checks passed followed by hired and start date agreed. This is my fourth Christmas on the job the other three were all straightforward.

Does all the paper work say Royal Mail or Angard?

When you signed the contract was it between you and Royal Mail or Angard? (You should have been left with a copy of the contract).

Have you received your Welcome pack and documentation that asks you to check your bank details - if so where did you have to send it to make corrections - Sheffield would be Royal Mail: Northampton or Andover would be Angard.
